Hello, yes I know a bazillion questions have been asked about straighteners before:rolleyes1 but anyway the deal is this...I have a pair of dual voltage GHDs that I bought a few years ago especially for the purpose of USA travel - but I still never think they work as well as they do at home. My question is...what si the USA equivalent of GHDs where could i buy some in Orlando and how much do they cost? Thanks x

Thanks Disneyholic I knoow they sell them lots of places but are those ones as good as GHDs - I have thick wavy hair so they need to get properly hot and be good!

did you check the link? that one looks really good..

although i have to say that straightening hair in orlando seems like a losing proposition....in the orlando humidity, straightened hair probably lasts about 5 minutes...

Those aren't as good as GHDs. But, you could definitely get away with a slightly less superior flat iron if you have some good hair product. I am in the process of doing a test run on several. I normally use Bumble and bumble Straightening Creme, but have been trying Aveda Smooth Infusions and Living Proof no frizz creme. They seem to make quite a difference. I have no desire to look like a freak while there :)

I'm interested in this also. My hair suffers terribly in the heat and humidity.

Tesco is selling John Freida Frizz Ease 3 day straight spray. Spray onto wet hair, dry with hairdryer and then heat straight. Quite pleased with results so far.

Would love to hear about anyone else's experience in dealing with frizzy hair and Florida humidity!

I have the dual voltage GHD's and found them to be excellent when in the US :)

so here's a website that reviews the various flat iron technologies - which type is appropriate for a particular type of hair..

it has a lot of information and towards the bottom lists the various brands..

you can then google whatever brand is right for your hair type

a lot of them are available on amazon.com, but i don't know if you can order from amazon.com from the UK.
if you can, then you could order an iron and have it delivered to your hotel.

I ordered some things from amazon.com last year and had them delivered to Pop Century for my arrrival.

On our last couple of trips (one of which was in August, one of the most humid months in Florida) I used Lee Stafford's Poker Straight Dehumidifier spray. You dry and style your hair as normal, then spray it on (like hairspray). It really worked for my hair, which is very prone to curl/frizz at the slightest hint of dampness. I usually get it from Boots - often they have offers on where you get a voucher for money off professional hair care products and that makes it reasonable. One bottle/tin lasts me at least through one holiday, if not two.

You could always do what I've done and enbrace the curl in your hair. :goodvibes

I've started to used John Freida curl products and have let my natural shaggy/loose curl come out and I have had more comments about how nice my hair looks than I ever did straigtening it. :confused3

I feel so much happier about my trip to florida now as last time I spent too much time straightening it or just tying it up and then cringing at the Photos! :rotfl:

exactly....

i finally "embraced my curl" a few years back and i'm much happier about it...

i use paul mitchell super sculpt to keep it falling loose around my head (my hair is half way down my back when wet, but can look like it's ear length if i don't use the paul mitchell)....

Just seen this thread after posting another one about straighteners (sorry!)

I've just researched dd's Babyliss straighteners and it looks like they have 'worldwide voltage' but I can't see a switch for voltage - does this mean they would switch voltage automatically?

Yes they will, the only thing I have that needs a switch to alter voltage is my travel hairdryer.

Thanks for your responses so far people - as for product I already use Tigi Bedhead "Some Like It Hot" - shampoo, conditioner and serum it's especially for humidity and is also SFS free - a bonus for anyone prone to eczema. I cannot embrace my curl as it is a wave and when my new short hairstyle pokes out hideously when not straightened.

Those of you ordering from Amazon to your hotel - how do you specify a delivery date?

Thanks all
x

can you order from amazon.com?

i have an american credit card, so i don't have any problems ordering from amazon.com (the american amazon) , i don't know if you can order from them if you don't have an american credit card..

anyway, you don't specify a date....you order it about 2 weeks before your arrival date (assuming it says that the order will be filled within a few days) and then the resort holds it for your arrival.
that is, if you're staying at a disney resort..
if you're not, then i don't know what you do..

i'm talking about shipping it to a disney hotel.

for shipping address, you put in your name and then C/O whatever the disney hotel name is
and then the actual address of the hotel

and you should also include your arrival date -if you can add shipping instructions put the arrival date there....otherwise, put the arrival date with your name...

I had the same problem last year with straighteners that wouldn't heat up. I ordered some travel multi-voltage ones from amazon yesterday. They were only £10 and had ooh reviews so hopefully they'll do the trick:thumbsup2

I'm a bit late to this thread, but after many trips, I can categorically say that the problem isn't with the straighteners themselves, but with the Florida humidity. For years, I used an extremely expensive set of US voltage irons that I bought from Redken on Fifth Avenue in New York. Then, with the advent of the dual-voltage ghd's, I switched to them. They definitely worked better than their non dual-voltage predecessors (which I'd used prior to the Redken purchase). I now have Cloud 9s, which I rate even more highly. I find that the humidity puffs my hair during the first day or so, no matter what, but it then settles down. The trick is to make sure you dry you hair well before straightening and that it is absolutely bone dry before venturing outside. Anti-humidity styling products and setting sprays are your friend! :thumbsup2
