I was cleaning up my DD3's room yesterday and noticed all these beautiful golden curls lying around. I then found DD8's doll that she got in Germany at Epcot 2 years ago with a severely reduced hair style.... :sad2:

After first blaming it on the dog, dd3 admitted that she had indeed cut the hair off the doll.

The question: does anyone know if the lovely ladies at the doll making counter in Germany will replace the wigs? We are going there in December and I'd love to be able to do this.

How sad! I feel for you. We (she) has Cinderella with beautiful curly hair but don't let DD take her's out unless I am right there with her. I'm afraid of the same thing so I would love to know if you get a reply on this. Hope you can get it replaced!

Pack her off to the New York Doll Hospital:
787 Lexington Ave.
New York, NY 10021
Phone: (212) 838-7527

They do amazing reconstructive work and they've never lost a patient. They even had the IDENTICAL arms to replace my 40+ year old baby doll... TWICE. (We had an overly enthusiastic flat-coated retriever.)

:rotfl2: sorry to laugh, but this reminded me of my own DD when she was 3. She decided to give her favorite doll, Pocahontas, a bath in the toilet, after she cut most of her long black hair off and poked out one eye. Pocahontas never regained her good looks, but she remained the favorite doll for another 2yrs. I made her a pretty dress to distract from her "disability". :goodvibes

I had a really hard time not laughing myself when I was getting dd3's confession. Particularlly when she was firmly insisting that it must have been the dog ("that's my story and I'm sticking to it").

As a parent, you just gotta laugh...

I found this on the Engel Puppen website:

What do I do, if my child cut his Engel-doll's hair (or the hair was otherwise damaged)?
Both hair types that we use, rooted hair or kanekalon wigs can be replaced when damaged.
If we are to replace the kanekalon wig of your doll, send us the undressed doll. We remove the old wig expertly, and glue a new wig on.
When replacing rooted hair, first the still existing hair must be cut off from the outside completely, then through the neck opening the hair loops inside the head are taken out with a small crochet needle. These work-steps take most of the time when replacing the rooted hair, and can easily be done by yourself. Please send us the bald doll head and the body. With a special sewing machine we insert new hair into the doll head, and fasten the head on the body.
In both cases, please let us know which hair style and hair color you would like for your doll.

I haven't called disney or the engel-puppen people yet -- the DIS boards are always my first stop for answers :)

I'll have to make some calls, and send some emails and see what answers I get. I'll keep you posted.

Look on the bright side. At least it was a doll that your DD restyled. Once my brother told my mom that my sister told him she wanted her bangs cut off, so being the loving brother that he was, he did it. Mom wasn't too thrilled, so Dsis had a bang-less hairstyle until they grew back.

I just got an email back from Mr. Helmut Engel of Engel-puppen saying that if we bring the doll in December they will be more than happy to replace the wig.

I hadn't asked about the charge for this, figuring that it couldn't be more expensive than buying a new doll...

But it's nice to know that they will do this, and that they answer their email so promptly.

UPDATE 12/8

As I was driving back from dropping the girls off at school this morning I was thinking, boy our vacation is less than two weeks away. I need to go and find that email from Helmut Engel to print out and bring along on our trip so I can get this dolls hair replaced.

I get home, go online and what is waiting for me but an email from Helmut Engel asking if we were still coming in December and would we still be stopping by to have the doll's hair replaced, and letting me know the hours he would be there.

I love Disney. Even the outside companies there add to the magic.

Now THAT is cool!!!! You gotta love the Disney magic!! Have an awesome trip and don't forget to take the doll!!!!

Something about this line cracked me up! It sounds like a weird ransom note or something! :teeth:

That is very cool that they're going to fix it for you, and taking the time to send you a personal e-mail as well!

What a cute story ... amusing ... glad they can fix the doll's hair. From the whole scenario, I can tell this must happen alot. :sunny:

My brother did the same thing to me, only he took a 1" stripe all the way down the middle of my head. Then he sent me in to tell my mom what I had done! I was only 3 but he was 7 and definatley knew better. I had to cut all my hair and wear hats.

Wow, I'm impressed with them and I haven't bought a doll! It's nice to know that you can still find great customer service like that.

Maybe you should take some before and after pics?
