We are sailing in September the Western Caribbean trip and my Daughter really wants to get her hair braided. I know they do it on Disney's Island but I think she will want to do other things there, does anyone know if they do the braiding onboard the ship? I am sure she would rather do it before she gets to the island if it's possible. If anyone has any details about this I would love to know that way I can pass it on to her....THANKS

We just came back from the Magic on 3/9 and my daughter had her hair braided onboard. It took 2 1/2 hours as she had her entire head done and we were glad she did not have it done on the island as it would have taken up too much time. They did a nice job however most of hers fell out within a few days and I think it was more her hair texture and cut than the job done. My daughter is 15 and paid for this herself so she went down to talk to the braiders and they gave her a full refund!! Of course, if it had been my money she wouldn't have said a word!

LOL Thanks for the info I am sure it is better to do it onboard with that kind of time involved.....did your daughter happen to mention how much it cost to have it done???? My daughter has mid back length hair so I am sure the time would be about the same for her. We saw so many girls with it done on our 4 night cruise (without kids) in 2000 and it looked great.

It cost $74.00 plus a tip (which I paid as my daughter thought that she'd paid enough!) She has hair to her shoulders and there were 51 braids... It was supposed to be something like $90.00 but the woman gave my daughter a break as my daughter apparently told her (I swear I wasn't there or part of this-lol) that she thought it was high and a discount would be nice!!!!I have to say and this is just my opinion, it seemed "cleaner" having it done onboard as opposed to the beach or streets of St Martin and St. Thomas.

I was also on the 3/9 cruise...but couldn't get in to get my hair braided on board. The hair braiders kept telling me to come back when they were free...but they never were. I ended up getting cornrows done on the beach in St. Maarten, and got the rest of my head done at Castaway Cay. I got 13 cornrows and that cost $30 and took about an hour. I got 35 more braids to get the rest of my head done at Castaway Cay...that took about an hour and a half...and the lady fixed my cornrows a bit and charged me $48 (thats how many braids I had total...so she just charged me $1/braid since she fixed the other ones). It would've been nice to have them done on the ship...however, it was not much of an inconvenience having it done on the islands since we just wanted to hang out on the beach all day anyway.

I too was on the 3/9 cruise. On Monday morning I went down at 9 am to get in line to make an appointment for my daughter to have her hair done. They finally started taking appointment at 9:50am there were about six people in front of me. When it was my turn I was told they were completely booked for corn rows which my daughter wanted. At about 1 that afternoon I walked past only to see people getting cornrows that were not even in line that morning. I mentioned it to the cast member there and she didn't seem concerned. We had my doughters hair done on St. Maarten. That was on Tuesday now a week later her hair still looks good. We paid $2 per corn row the same as on the ship. The woman was very nice, spoke very good english and was very helpful answering questions about shopping. I wouldn't hesitate to have it done on St. Maarten. She only took about 45 min and did 20 corn rows.
