Haggard asks for forgiveness?

Oh but he denied it, nope save the tears, he is a grown man and knew what he did, like so many other's. He is only sorry for one thing. That he got busted! :teeth:

::yes::

I like how he said he bought meth but then threw it away.

BTW the man how said he has sex with was on TV and explained that he failed a polygraph about this relationship.

I used this on another thread, but it's appropriate here as well: Being a grown-up means you take responsibility for the consequences of your choices. No blaming, no excuses, no victimhood, no martyrdom.

One of the things I like about being Catholic is the concept of Confession. I cannot be truly forgiven for my sins unless I'm really sorry and I have a firm purpose to try and avoid that sin in the future. I also have to "own" my sinful nature and the tendencies I have that lead me to sin. I can't go into the Confessional and blame someone else, or excuse my actions through drugs or alcohol. If I did something sinful while under the influence, the first sin was getting drunk or using drugs.

The current trend of blaming everything on drugs, alcohol, past abuse or whatever is really getting old.

Who should he apologize to ? to His followers or to the gay and lesbians community he sent to hell while doing exactly what he was comdemning ?

:confused3

That's the same way I feel and I'm applauding your post at very this moment. If I see one more phony person shed tears, then check into some form of rehab, I'm going to hurl chunks. I will never forget the image of Jim Baker when he was sentenced to jail or Jimmy Swaggart crying when he confessed to sins. (code word for sleeping with many prostitutes)

In front of a congregation of 7,000 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, he sobbed and confessed to "moral failure" without actually going into any detail.

I have sinned against you and I beg your forgiveness

You need to meet the Church Lady and confess your sins! :rotfl:

Hmmm... Who or what could be behind Ted and his partaking of meth and sleeping with buff, male prostitutes? Could it be SATAN?????

I just read a summary of his confession. I appreciate the part where he says he is a liar and deceiver, unfit to lead his congregation. I applaud his candor and self-awareness and wish him well on his spiritual journey.

Sure he's sorry.

Sorry he got caught!

:rotfl2: :lmao: I love it.

In some people's eyes I guess it's OK now to confess and apologize without actually fessing up to what you did wrong.

I really doubt his followers would accept that from outsiders who have done the same things.

Personally I think he should gave given a FULL confession of everything he did addressing the specific charges that were made against him. However, he has admitted to being a liar and deceiver so its hard to determine his credibility on any of his confession as heartfelt as it may have seemed. But if he would have given more specific details then he could have regained a small shred believability.

I originally thought he should say what he had done -in full and in detail. But him saying that he is a liar and deceiver and unfit to lead seems adequate to me at this point. It's probably safe to assume he did all those lurid things we are probably thinking he did. Forgiveness is something to be worked out between him, his family, his former church, and God.

Probably a lot of other church leaders accepting this non statment because they would love to do the same thing should they get caught.

Confession is a crucial piece of forgiveness. Confession helps one with accountability in the future as well. Confession also shows that Haggard has come to terms with the totality of his sin and is still not in the state of denial that he was obviously entrenched in. Total confession will also help with the accuser as well and take the anger that is being placed on the accuser and have it fall on the shoulders of Haggard where it rightfully belongs. I would have a different take on this if Haggard had been honest from the start of all of this. Unfortunately, people appear to be right that he only confessed because he was caught.
