Had to buy MORE cables!

Almost there with my media centre! Now I just need some more, thicker wires for the speakers... the current ones are too thin and I fear they may be a fire hazard. I hope they aren't but for $3.45 for some black/red cables at over 3 times the thickness, just 5 yards needed, I think it's very much worth it :)

Never though of something like that being a potential fire hazard.

The fire potential in speaker wire is extremely low. The voltages aren't high at all and the receiver probably has a protection circuit in case of a short anyway.

Now, a better quality speaker cable may produce better quality sound, but that's a whole different story.

That's actually very reassuring :) Maybe some point in the future I can buy some more expensive wires, up 'til a point :)

Well, honestly, the sound quality won't get much better except to real audiophiles. Thicker/better cables though can shield more from interference if there is any.

Unless there was a short, the potential for fire is very low though. I feel like you'd really have to do something crazy for that to happen, though I guess it's possible. Chances are a receiver would shut off if there were a short, though it could definitely damage your equipment.

Slightly off topic but, what is with all the Podcasters and YouTubers with HUGE microphones? I worked in Radio and TV for 46 years and we never used that kind of equipment. I saw one Podcaster who had a fancy Shure studio microphone with a pop filter................and she is doing her Podcast FROM HER LAUNDRY ROOM. Every thing she is saying is echoing off the washer and dryer, and that isn't an issue, but a few pops would be?

It's all about the looks. It's like those fancy headphones like Beats. Sure, they're good quality, but it doesn't matter much if you're listening to 128 kbps MP3s! I guess you can really hear that compession!
