and I'm still relatively uncomfortable. Taking pain meds and using a hot pad on my tummy. I've got some soreness in my shoulders from the gas they put in my stomach area to inflate it, have some bruising and cramping in my abdominal area, a sore throat from being intubated, and two small cuts (one next to my belly button and one a little further south -- just in the hair line) that were glued back together very nicely.

It's not really an experience I'd want to go through again, but everything went well (all of the hospital staff was great!) and I'm happy not to have to worry about birth control any more. :goodvibes

If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask!

Hope you're feeling back to normal soon!

I was planning to have a tubal when I my c-section with my 2nd child, but I didn't go through with it because I had to be under general anesthesia and they were doing an emergency c/s because of a problem with the placenta, and I just couldn't do it. Now I wish I would have, but hindsight is always 20/20.

Thanks for the report, I'm dreading the IV the worst of all, if that isn't dumb...

Naw, that's not dumb. I hate needles. Actually, the nurse that did my IV was smooth -- didn't feel it at all. Of course, I had to have my blood taken on Weds. to check my blood type, blood cell count (for poss. infection), and pregnancy test and that needle hurt more than the IV.

:grouphug: for a speedy recovery.

I had mine "tied" a little over 5 years ago and regret it every day.
:worried::sad1:

Hope you feel better soon. My best friend had her tubes tied and I think she was also a bit surprised at the discomfort. It's funny--it is just sooooo acceptable for women to have tubals and not much is said but it is kind of "major." I just don't understand why the medical community doesn't push vasectomies much more than they do. They are really so much better for everyone involved.

I totally agree. But I couldn't convince DH. He's fully aware that I think he's a wuss. My MIL has taken care of me and the kids yesterday and today, while DH worked. This weekend, DH gets to do all of the childcare on his own while I recuperate (reading books and eating chocolates sounds very recuperative to me).

:teeth: Good for you!! I'd be milking this one for all it's worth!!

I had a tubal at 35 as my birthday present to myself. Had to go to PP because my Dr. practiced in a Catholic hospital and couldn't do it. Also, he didn't agree because I have no living children (had a stillborn boy 15 years ago). But I have to say, it's the best thing I've ever done :cool1: . Once you (generic you :) ) are sure that you don't want any (more) children, there is no more liberating feeling than a tubal (or vasectomy, for that matter).

I remember being in pain for a couple of days, pretty bad the first day, but still I wouldn't change it! I had it as an outpatient procedure in the PP office, so there was no tube, and just one incision in the belly button.

Feel better soon!

Feel better soon.
I was surprised to read the number of people who's experience with this is through general anesthesia....I had mine done and was awake, had a spinal.....

Sorry you had to go through that. DH just had a vasectomy today. Guess I should go thank him again. Really - it was a piece of cake for him.

It's sad but I know it was the right decision. We are getting old.

Hope you have a speedy recovery - def. milk it.

My DH had a vasectomy on Monday afernoon and he was  raring to do it this morning. I hope your recovery is as quick and painless as his.

I didn't even have that! Just some IV Demerol and local anesthesia on the incision site... snip, snip, bingo, NEXT!

Thanks. So far so good. Hope he's raring soon too.

Wow. Well, your description convinced me that I need to thank DH once again for taking care of this issue for us! Our deal was I would handle BC before and while we were having kids and when it came time for something permanent, it was his turn. He went in without a complaint though he did try to talk to me about sensitive areas. I was not too sympathetic really. Our biggest son was almost 11lbs so I know all about sensitive areas, thanks.

Still, I wouldn't have wanted to have the tubal.

Hope you feel better soon. I think you need a bell by your bed to ring when you need some more chocolate!

Heck, my Dad had his vasectomy in the military hospital back in the 70s -- actually had an assembly line of men getting vasectomies. He was willing and able to use it that night!

Ugh! I was thinking of doing it, but forget it now. It sounds miserable. Maybe dh would be willing to get a vasectomy. For those dh's who had one, how long were they in pain.
:grouphug: Hugs to the op. Get well soon!

Thanks for all of the well wishes.

I really am doing much better this afternoon and evening. Getting my tubes tied wasn't as bad as giving birth to my kids. I won't be running any marathons this weekend, but I'll have a little bit of relaxation for a few days.

Yesterday, DH asked me how much pain I was in. I told him, "A heck of a lot more than I'd be in if you'd had a vasectomy." But, since DH was too much of a chicken to consider getting snipped and I had no desire to get pregnant sometime in my 40s if I forgot to take a pill one day, a tubal seemed to be a good way to go. Despite a couple of days of discomfort, I've been happy with the procedure so far and don't have any regrets. :)

DH just had it today and so far he hasn't even needed a tylenol. Really he said it was nothing. They don't even need stiches taken out. The whole procedure was less than 30 min. and he just had a local anestesia (sp?). I 'm so grateful he did it. After all we had to do child birth. My feeling was that was the least he could do. Def. tell you DH to do it. My OB suggested my DH do it- it's much easier on the man.
