Had a scare last night

It's kind of hard to explain, but my DH had his semi and trailer stuck knee deep in mud on a dead end street, DS4 was with him because it's spring break and loves to truck with Daddy. Doesn't sound too bad yet, does it?

Here's the story, about 9:30 last night I get a call from DH "talk to son, I can't explain, just talk to him to keep him in the truck". Ok, wasn't too worried yet. Get on the phone with DS and he says someone crashed into them and Daddy was trying to get the truck out of the mud. :scared1: DS is trying to find his shoes to "help" daddy get out. Yikes. So I sing with him, I talk to him. I read to him and my DH never comes back on the phone. FINALLY he does and he is out of control, he's lost all sense of calmness, nothing he says is making sense. They were trying to get to a motel, someone gave them wrong directions, he was trying to find a place to turn around when they came to a bridge out sign. Tried to turn around on a small dead end and got way, way stuck. He says it's raining, the river is coming up and he has to go.

So there I sit. Worried about (1) DH is going to have a heart attacke. He has a bad family history of heart attacks, he has high cholestrol and blood pressure. He was totally out of control, frantic...not making any sense. Or what if the trailer fell on him? I didn't know where he was, except a general local town. (2) What if DS tried to get out of the truck to help Dad? Would DH see him? Would he wander away? (3) What about the rising water?

Which got me thinking....how do I contact the police and let them know where DH is? I did get on line and found the police department for the town he was close to. I waited about 45 minutes. I didn't want to continue to call DH because I knew he was on a time crunch with the rising water and the rain making the ground softer. I am telling you, I was in a panic myself. I finally called him after those 45 minutes, thinking I'd get his voice mail and I'd tell him I'd give him 10 more minutes to call me or I was calling the police.

Luckily, he answered. He had the truck out and there was no way the trailer was getting out. But he was able to drive out and get a room so he could find a wrecker service. Which he did and they are pulling out the trailer right now.

I have never felt so helpless. So many thing could have gone wrong. But thankfully, they are both ok.

If I had called the police in that town, would they have helped me? From now on I will always know where they are!!

That is very scary!!! So glad they made it out of there. I would think that the police would in fact help out though, so calling them would have been the thing to do!

Wow, I would have been petrified. Glad to hear that everyone is o.k.

I would have been frantic. The police would have been able to at least go out and make sure he was okay and to help him out anyway they could. Especially once they heard there was a child involved.

Glad to hear it all worked out okay.

Thanks everyone...I guess I needed to just get it out. I keep re-playing in my mind what could have gone wrong. Thanking God it didn't go wrong.

There has to be a better way of knowing where he is. Maybe I'll put a tracking device on him!:rotfl:

I don't know if the police would have found him with my sketchy directions, but DH only had a few minutes and I was calling!

They will get home today...can't wait to hug them both.

That is terribly frightening indeed. THANK GOD they are both ok..Enjoy your weekend.

How scarey. I would have been calling every 2 minutes.:grouphug:

Thank goodness everyone ok.:grouphug:

You had a good idea about keeping track. My DH travels allot. Next time I'm asking him to Mapquest his route.

That is a GREAT idea! If he'll stay on the route. Sometimes he take detours.

I just talked to him. He is back on the road (some $700 later) and will be home late this afternoon.

I seriously would like to thank all of you who responded....I don't generally get a big response to my threads. The support really helped.

Wow, I would have been a wreck. Ia m glad that everything is OK. Maybe there is something that you and your husband can do so you have an idea of where he will be driving. BTW ~ I think the police would have responded, or at least told you who to contact.

I wonder if his portable GPS (is that the right initials?) would help?

What about one of those GPS phones. Supposidly you can track your teenagers on the computer with them?

Oh KIM!!! Do I need to send you my phone number so you have someone to call when you are going out of your mind? You poor thing. Thank God everyone one is okay.

if you have sprint or nextel, there is a way to activate the GPS for the phone.I'm sure other major carriers off the same thing.
As the daughter of a former long-haul O/O, I know that feeling....

Good idea!

Would it be like that commercial with the "dots"? Don't mess with the dots? :rotfl:

I read it on a news site (now I have to find it) This Mom talked about how she went on the computer and saw her daughters location (on her way to a dog show I think) and she could tell the driver was going around 85mph. So she texted her daughter about slowing down or she would come down there herself.

I thought the Disney cellphone had the tracking device in it! Hook him up with one of those.

I have that on my phone, too, and it works wonderfully....except I am not physically there when things are happening so I am still :scared: :headache: :upsidedow .

Yes, I think the police would help. I have called the police before to check on my sister and BIL in Florida who didn't call or email me which was really rare. They sent a patrolman over for me to check things out and then he had them call me.

Glad to hear they are okay!
