Glad everyone is safe, that is one of my biggest fears. When we moved into this house, I found so many wiring problems. They didn't use j-boxes on any of the bathroom fixtures. Several outlets weren't wired properly. There was no GFI in areas where it was required, etc etc. Aged wiring with crumbling shielding. I'm still worried about what we didn't find.

Did you know the actual reason for the fire occurrence. Is it a short circuit from the microwave?
I guess to file an insurance claim, they need a neat description of the occurrence of fire and an estimate of total damage that occurred. After all the filling processes such as inspection, documentation and image uploads, we need to fix the house back to normal. Hopefully, this process will be stressful and time taking. So we need expert fire and smoke restoration technicians to make the work as smoothly as possible. Since the presence of smoke inside the house will affect our health.

I am so sorry this happened. This is a huge fear of mine. We don't light candles or use extension cords.

Now I am even more fearful, because you were just doing an every day thing and still a fire

I am so happy you and your family are ok, but what a traumatic experience.
