Hi all.Wondering what you would do.3 cases were confirmed at my girls elementary school today.Their last day of school is Friday, which is a half day.Would like your opinions.
1.Keep them home from school
2.Send them to school
3.Keep them home Wed and Thurs but let them go for an hour or so on Fri

Thanks for input

I say send them. Kids have a great time on their last week of school. I found out there was a confirmed case of H1N1 at my DD's school (which has only 9 classes and about 225 kids) a week or two ago and I didn't hesitate to send her.

As long as they are perfectly healthy in other words don't have their immune systems compromised in any way there is little to no harm is sending them....But that's just my opinion....:thumbsup2

I disagree with the previous posters. Is it really worth sending her in for 2-1/2 days and then having her possibly be sick for weeks during her summer vacation? It's not like they're actually learning anything at this point in the year. Keep her home -- better safe than sorry. (And yes, I would feel the same way if it were the regular flu, chicken pox, lice...)

I said keep em home. They dont' do anything the last week anyways...why take a chance?

Now..if they REALLLLLY wanted to go... I'd let them go for a bit on Friday..

Unless my kids were immunocompromised, I'd send them in a heartbeat.

I'd keep mine home. But I'm not the right person to ask....I let mine stay home a lot! :rotfl:

Trust me (this is coming from a 1st grade teacher), nothing is going on the last few days anyway. The report cards were finalized at least a week ago, & in my district, attendance is always completed a week ahead of time....those last 5 days EVERYONE is considered present, even if they don't show up. :teacher:

My son was the first confirmed case at his school and we kept him home a week. There were many other kids with similar symptoms who only stayed home a couple days. So, chances are good that there is more than the one case at your dd's school. That being said, if your dd has ANY health condition at all, I'd keep her home. This bug likes kids, especially with asthma and other underlying conditions (diabetes, obesity..) Why take the chance?

My son had a very mild case, my niece was confirmed a week later, she has asthma. Hers started on Thursday and she is still sick-I'm a bit worried about her.

Do you keep them home anytime somebody in their classes are out with the regular strain of the flu? If not, I would send them. The CDC is no longer recommending that schools or businesses close. This strain is no more virulent than any other. In fact, it appears to be less severe than some of the more recent A strains. I would send my child, but would make sure to remind them to wash their hands often and not to touch their face.

I was going to post this exact question yesterday.

There were 3 cases confirmed this week at my DD10 school. I am sending her after much discussion between my husband and myself.

Ok So I changed my answer now that 2 out of 22 children in my DD's class have it. I think i will keep her home for the last 2 days. 2 out of 22 is a little to close for comfort for me. In the school is one thing, but in her exactly classroom is another.
