How is this and is it worth the $50+?

We have done this in the past. The buffet is very good and all the characters are dressed in holiday costumes. If getting photos with the characters is important to you then it is worth it. If you are not big on buffets then you may want to pass. DH said that having photos with people in the background eating wasn't very impressive to him.

We did this 2 years ago on Christmas night. We waffled over canceling it so many times due to the cost and decided to keep the reservation. My kids were DD17 and DS14 at the time. We'll be at WDW again for Christmas this year and they asked last night if we could do it again. We all really enjoyed the buffet. The characters came around and we took a couple of pictures but it wasn't overkill on the time spent which for us was perfect. I suspect they can tell who wants a little more time and attention vs those that don't. We really liked the atmosphere and the food.

We also have the 1900 PF buffet, adding another might be too much for my DH also. We were considering this for our grandson's character meal. We have 50's cafe booked for our DHS day for now.

We loved it so much when it started that we booked it again for Thanksgiving dinner this year

I think it would be great! You get to see Santa Goofy on the way in & then the rest come to the table.
