H.R. PufnStuff...

I happened to come into this while there was some Electra Woman and girl on. I don't rmemeber that but afterwards Lidsville and Bugaloos were on and I remember those but I don't remember them being so bad!

The first conversation DW and I had was about HR Puff'n'stuff.

We met at a friend's house before a "blind date" and HR Puff'n"stuff was on TV.

I guess this show is the foundation of our 18 year marriage!

Remember Electrawoman & Dynagirl? Shazam? Mighty Isis?

My after school faves were Speed Racer, Marine Boy, Astro Boy, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons, & Kimba the White Lion.

Oh my gosh, I LOVED the Banana Splits and New Zoo Review. I HAD to watch those everyday. I also loved Gigglesnort Hotel- anyone remember that one?
I was a major Electrawoman and Dynagirl fan!!!

KIMBA not Simba!!! I posted about Simba the white lion above. My favorite too! I remember Shazam. Wow am I getting old or what!!!

Last night HR Pufinstuff and the Buggaloos were on and I was watching a little. When I excitedly called my 12 yo DS into the room he watched for a moment and then told me, "You've got a lot of nerve making fun of my Yu Gi Oh and Pokemon cartoons! This is just sick! What was wrong with kids in your day?"

You know... I think he might be right!

Ah, Sid and Marty Kroft. Judging from their shows, I'm guessing their motto was "Better living through recreational chemicals".

I remember I had a really big crush on the female Bugaloo. She was one fine bug!

I totally loved that show when I was young. It brings back so many memories.

DH and I were commenting recently on how much of our childhood was the product of ...shall we say.... creative pharmaceuticals!

Lewis Carroll had nothin' on sid and Marty Kroft!!!

I loved Witchy Poo.........and Jack Wild - he was one of my favorites (along with Bobby Sherman and David Cassidy!)

Cindy B - The puppets for Land of Confusion were from a British TV show called either "Splitting Image" or "Spitting Image" can't remember which. (Maybe someone from the UK can fill us in??) I lived in Canada in the 80's and it was on late night TV there.....lots of political humor. No wonder I liked HR Puff, created by same guys, cool!

I'll have to tune in to TVland!

Did you know that only 17 episodes of PufnStuff were ever filmed? The show ran for years on Saturday morrning, but they never filmed a second season. I remember wondering as a kid why they kept showing the same episodes again and again. They had no choice, that was all they had.

I read somewhere a long time ago that Puff'nStuff was a very expensive show to produce for that time slot. Thus the one season only.

Does anyone remember Simba the white Lion? Or Davie and Goliath? How about Speedracer-go speedracer, go speedracer, go speedracer GOOOO

Oh yea loved the Mach 5. Sprittle and ChimChim cracked me up.
I have the Speedracer episodes on DVD!

My fav afternoon shows were Ultraman and Johnny Socko and his Flying Robot. I just got this past weekend the first four episodes of Ultraman on tape!
My gf and I watched it and thought this stuff is kinda corny but also cool :D

Wow! I watched that last night. My sister actually thought she would grow up to be that girl on The Bugaloos, but then again she thought she's marry that hairy little dude on Land of the Lost.

I just couldn't sit through Lidsville though. What in the heck were they doing that made them come up with that show? My kids have never seen Lidsville (although I have a lunch box with Lidsville on it I got at a yard sale). My 14 year old said it was psychotic. My 10 year old was liking it though, but he had to go to bed.

Was this just a one night only thing? I haven't seen those shows in a long time.

As far as I know it was just a one time thing but there is a Kroft DVD set out there with one of each of those shows on it and I think PufnStuff the complete series was released yesterday on DVD.

And how about that outfit Johhny Whitaker was wearing when he was singing....sad thing is I think I had a pair of pants just like it

Oh. You're right. I just went onto TV Land's website, and it was a 1 day thing.

If I would have known that I'd have taped it.

Jack Wild was my first post-Monkees crush (remember I was about 5 at the time!) He was also in the movie of Oliver! as the Artful Dodger, and believe it or not has a minor role in Kevin Costner's Robin Hood (he looks awful--he was an alcoholic for a long time).
In Electra Woman and Dyna Girl, E.W. looks familiar because it is Deidre Hall--Marlena from Days of our Lives!
I LOVED HR Pufnstuf--didn't care for Lidsville, liked Sigmund--never saw the Bugaloos until last night and was,um, underwhelmed.
Did anyone else like to watch The Archies?
Robin M.

I loved the Archies, Sabrina the Teenaged Witch, Archies TV FunHouse and the Groovy Ghoulies.

Speaking of "recreational chemicals," anyone remember "Tomfoolery"?

So no one else remembers Captain Scarlet? It was a really good British sci-fi series filmed in Gerry Anderson's Supermarionation. Unlike the Thunderbirds, the "puppets" were made to realistic human proportions. I bought the DVD set as soon as it came out.
