So we did the Reserved Dining for WoC at 4:40 PM. Long story short: Worth it to me, but make your way toward seating before the time on the FP. More details below though. :)

First off, I had expected the parks to be utter madness but I really didn't find them that bad. Honestly, it felt more crowded to me when we went last summer in June a few days before the blockouts. :confused3

As I mentioned before, we initially requested 4:00 PM, but when I called back a couple days later to confirm, they said they didn't have me down for World of Color. :headache: I got the time moved to 4:40 PM though. We checked in around 4:30 with no problems. (Later a man in a suit who, from another post, may have been the head of the restaurants in the parks? asked us how we were/did we plan to go to World of Color (when we said 'yes' he said he guessed that from our salads!) and when did we book our meal. So I explained our situation to him. He listened politely. ;) )

Service was pleasant but, ah, leisurely. For the 9 PM show, I would suggest a reservation no later than 5:30, just in case. The place was about deserted when we arrived, but got crowded later.

Menu:

The "appetizer" was something like a crostini with a garlic spread; I think there were sun dried tomatoes in the bread? We also got bread with olive oil. The square pieces were plain; the triangle ones had too many herbs for me.

The salad (pretty good!):

I got the steak, medium well. The tip end was a little tough but the rest was good. Pretty darned pink by the time you got to the thick end. I initially thought the potatoes were OUTSTANDING so saved them for last. A few weren't cooked perfectly but most just melted in my mouth. I wasn't impressed by the green beans but I don't like green beans. I ate them anyway.

Someone else got the seafood pasta. I don't think she liked the look of the mussels and she didn't eat it all, as it was too spicy for her. :(

The picky eater in our group liked the herb-crusted chicken breast fine; she just didn't eat the peppers in the pasta.

A lot of people seemed to be getting the steak. One of the members of my party noticed the lamb and said it was a pretty good size.

For dessert, it appears you get 1 tiramisu for every 2 people, if you were counting. :) I don't like strawberries but I thought the brownie things (which were warm, almost hot!) and tiramisu were both pretty good. The others could take or leave the tiramisu. You could definitely taste the alcohol (or you could if you don't really drink...) but the only other place I've ever had tiramisu it tasted even stronger, so I guess Disney did OK.

Finally they handed us:

By then it was something around 6:20, so we went to Paradise Pier to ride the carousel and then back to Blue Sky Cellar. Around 7:20 we headed over to check out the seating situation. There was a kind of throng of people...we asked a CM where to go and were advised they were already seating (despite the FP clearly stating no early or late arrivals).

It was a veritable maze of ropes but we finally reached the viewing area. We stood just behind the ropes that formed a walkway on the right side, with a center view of the Fun Wheel. There was tons of room to sit before the show, but they asked people to get up about 8:15 (not us, but people, so we got up anyway).

The view really was practically perfect; no heads in our way. The actual area was, I estimated, about half full (someone else here said 30-40%). Since people paid a good amount of money to secure these spots, I don't think they'll fill up that area TOO full. But I would suggest you get there around 7:15 or even earlier, especially if you have kids. Our spot was not a good place for kids to see the show, due to the wall.

Where we were, we got VERY lightly misted, then heavily misted starting with the Pocahontas scene, and then it felt like heavy rain (!) for the stampede. So be aware of that.

Here's what the area in front of us looked like after the show:

Overall I didn't notice any crowd control problems at all; it was all very pleasant.

SPOILERS (ish) BELOW!

We were RIGHT by one of the "stages" for the pre-show:

Here's the kind of vistas we got:

As for the show, even just BEING there, let along SEEING it, really made me feel like a kid again. I am just wowed by the attention to detail and all the effort put into entertaining people. (even more spoilers) I was literally jumping up and down before the show (even the fact that they changed the colors of the lamps for the section you're in astounded me!).

And the show was gorgeous and beautiful and wonderful! I'd liken it more to a GREAT fireworks show than Fantasmic!--it didn't give me the raw emotion Fantasmic! can (seeing the live characters just chokes me up!). But the fountains and projections were MAGNIFICENT. It was pretty breezy; I'm sure on a still day they'd be even better. But it was just glorious.

(end spoilers)

I'm not sure how the rest of the viewing area works, but I think the reserved dining package is fair enough (it looks like you KNOW what section you will be in, and you get a meal that's good, if not huge). That said, if you don't get to the viewing area fairly early (certainly by the beginning of your "window"), you might not get a good spot, which would be annoying. :( You could probably get a FP to almost any tier and as long as you're there very early, get a good view. But I think with the dining you increase your odds, since the space isn't crowded at all. I'm not certain about how many good spots there are; I'm sorry that I was a bad scout and didn't really look around much. :(

But it went out without a hitch for us and it worked great! Pricey but great. Not sure I'd do it again (being cheap and all), but if you're going in the first few weeks I would highly recommend it. :) Especially for the first show--they do a pre-show for the first show only. At least today, if you were in the center (as I was), you're far enough away from the action that you don't feel obligated to participate, but close enough that you can if you want. :)

Thanks for the detailed report.....I originally had 4:10 WCT reservations, but when I called back to confirm some things (i.e. that we did indeed have WOC reservations) we had to split up our reservations to 2 parties & ended up moving our time to 6:30 so we can catch the Pixar parade (the only day we can catch it is the same day we have WOC planned).....now I'm worried that is too late. I'm also wondering if our group will still be able to be in the same viewing area since we had to split up (they said the max party size is 8 & we have 10 in our group). hmm...I might be calling Disney Dining tomorrow to see if they have any earlier times available still.

I would double-check that 6:30 is supposed to be a time for the first show. I think that might be the cut-off, in which case you may be set up for the 10:15 show.

This is the second time it's taken us 90 minutes+ to get through a meal at WCT (though the last time was before they got a new menu). They treat it as four courses (with the "appetizer" first). But if it takes you that long, you won't be able to leave the restaurant until at least 8 PM.

In fairness, very few people actually came to the viewing area anytime immediately after us--if we would've arrived at 7:30 PM there's a good chance we could've snagged the same great (for us) spot. But at 8 PM, I doubt it.

We did see the Pixar Parade (from indoors...) while we were eating (probably 5:35; I have a photo with I think the Buzz Lightyear float at 5:40 PM).

If you can eat outdoors with a much earlier seating, you could see the parade OK, which might be a good compromise. (I did see what looked like them delivering some of the WoC entrees outside, despite previous reports to the contrary.)

When I called back they said the last seating for the 9pm show was at 7pm at WCT (I think AG is 6:30)......

The CM on that call was super helpful, she was trying to confirm that we might be able to see the parade from WCT, but her manager told her that due to some festival going on, they didn't know if the parade was doing the full route (by WCT) or the half-route (which ends before WCT). I'm going to get up early tomorrow (or today rather...I'm at work right now on a graveyard shift) and I'll call Disney Dining and see if we can get reservations for earlier...but given that we are going on Tuesday I won't hold my breath. If we have to miss the parade, well then we miss it....IMO, WOC is more important! And we have 4 kids 2 1/2 - 11 with us so good spots is important to me (WCT/WOC is my treat to my family).

When I initially called for WoC dining the CM was super-nice and helpful, and then she didn't even actually mark my reservation as WoC. :headache: So now I don't trust any of them. :flower3:

Friday the parade was doing the "full" route, obviously, but who knows? The only "festival" I know of would be Glow Fest, but :confused3

You may be right about the ticket cutoffs, but you may be really be cutting it close with your current reservations. Then again, maybe I'm just unusual in having two very slow experiences with WCT?

Hope it all works out for you! Have a GREAT trip! I hope it goes even better than you plan. :)

It was some sort of Food & Wine festival....which I thought was over in May? Who knows. You are right though, just because they're helpful doesn't mean they aren't mis-informed.

One hour left at work and then tomorrow (sunday) we're off.....can't wait! looking forward to many more reviews & shared experiences about how the WOC dining *hopefully* progresses this week! :goodvibes

:thumbsup2 Awesome review, thank you! Our PS is for 5:30 so it looks like we'll eat and then head right over.

What a wonderfully thorough review - thank you. It will be interesting to see if anything changes by Sunday when we go - I will report back. :goodvibes

Thanks for the report. When they gave you the FP, how did you know where to go? Having never been to DL/DCA I'm totally clueless about where to go. We have the dining package in two weeks at 4pm. Thanks.

We headed over to the viewing area via the WCT side (not the side coming from Paradise Pier). We had to ask several CMs where to go. They were all correctly informed (as in we were never actually directed wrong), but the whole line to go through to get your seating was challenging to navigate, so we ended up asking more than one person along the way. Luckily one member of our party is very extroverted (not me!) so it wasn't any bother.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if they have a little signage two weeks from now (maybe defining the entrance area?). Some people were frustrated with how difficult it was to find where you're going. But the CMs were mostly knowledgeable so we just asked them as we went along, and in the long run we had no problems.

Great detailed post. My two boys and I will be going to DL in July. I am now just, trying to figure out my strategy for WOC. One of my boy's is in a wheelchair so I'm trying to figure out if there's some sort of ADA viewing area. I don't think I'm doing the dining package but, I'm open to the picnic meal. As of now, I have 36 days to get my trip planning in order. Your post was very informative:thumbsup2 TY

Thank You! You said the preferred area wasn't full, but I wonder if by the time we go in Aug. it will be because more people will know about it. I'm thinking most people didn't know about getting the package in time for the first night. Or do you think they always "underbook" that area?

From talking to the manager, he said they were purposely underbooking to make sure there was lots of room. But, that could change as they see how many people the section holds.

Well, that was smart of them to do. By August, they might have it down but then start packing them in. :crowded: Oh well, wait and see.

Wow thank you ~ we'll be at WCT on 7/3! So you ate inside ~ could you have eaten outside? We like to watch the Pixar parade while dining at WCT and I think I've timed our reservation right *5pm*

Thank you for the review! It was wonderful! I went to sleep
last night thinking and wondering who will be the first review popcorn:: to read in the morning :goodvibes yours is the first :)

Thanks! Great info! Since I skipped the spoilers I did not get a sense of how much you enjoyed the show. How much? ;)

Thanks for taking the time to post an awesome report Eeee-va:thumbsup2

I saw your picture of the crowds after the show, but how did you find it getting out of the park afterwards?
