My mom has a disability placard and has sciatica that makes it difficult for her to stand for a long time. She won't need a wheelchair, but I'm wondering if there is anything for people like her.

I looked online, and it looks like there used to be a Special Assistance Pass so that you could wait in line without standing but that DL doesn't offer that anymore.

Has anyone else dealt with this issue?

Thanks for your help!

They have the same sort of Guest Assistance Card as WDW does, but from what I've read, for people who have problems walking or standing for long, they HIGHLY recommend the use of a wheelchair or ECV.

Though a couple times when I've been very sick and spend lots of time lying around being ill, I've had bouts of sciatica, and I know that sitting is misery. I wonder if that could be explained if they suggest wheels for her?

Now I'll leave it to people who have more than "book" knowledge.

They always explained to us that the pass was never intended to reduce wait time, and get you to the front of the line. Sometimes using the pass was longer then the stand by line (thinking IASW and POTC). Of course that was with a wheel chair, and I know that's what they recommend. It was hard for us, because my brother, even in a wheel chair didn't do well with long waits (he's also severly mentally disabled). They never offered us any extra help with that.

Maybe one reason is because so many would probably abuse it. Say they have a problem, don't need a wheel chair, but just need to not wait in lines. Which I'm sure would happen sadly, so many abuse the wheel chairs even. Sad that so many ruin things for those who really need those services.

But it certainly doesn't hurt to go in, explain, and hopefully something can be done! Good luck!

Okay, we'll just go to Guest Services when we get there and see what they say. I'll have to report back after our trip. Thanks for your help!

Now that I think about it, since she just wants a place to sit while waiting, maybe getting a wheelchair WOULD be the best way. Pushing her seat around, in other words. Then she uses the accessible entrance, but doesn't have to wait for the vehicle that accomodates a wheelchair (which can add extra time I've heard).

OR can she sit on those camp chairs that are like a little triangle on tripods? I wonder if she could carry that around (or you could, to be kind, LOL) and wait in the regular lines, but just sit down while waiting for the line to move? Though where she would put it while on the ride, I don't know. Hmm. Well actually if she got a bag for it, it would look just like she has a big bag with her. I've seen big bags being taken on rides before.

That's not a bad idea to bring a little chair. I'm going to have a stroller, so we could put it in there if it's not too big. She'd also be able to bring it on the ride if it was a small fold-up stool. Thanks for the idea!

Thanks! I'll check that out. I've only been in the Disneyland board. :)
