We did this in 2016. I know check in was easy and normal as our names were on the reservation. I know when our friends called to book it for us, they said my husband was her sister. As long as your name is on the reservation you should be fine. Just FYI - this trip is what led us to purchasing DVC. Be prepared to want back in! Enjoy your stay and welcome home!
Because you won't have membership cards, you won't be eligible for any discounts or special DVC stuff, but otherwise they don't actually care who is in the room.

Check-in online and skip the front desk unless you need to go there...
When your friend booked the reservation, did they check the box "this guest is not an owner"? That is the only way anyone would know.
Where people will notice that you're not an owner is if you were to try and use member-only things like the Top of the World (whatever it is called now) and the Epcot Lounge.
If you try to get a DVC discount on dining or shopping, it is now pretty universal that they want to see the card in a digital wallet so that you would not have access too.
Outside of the member lounges and discounts, no one cares if you are a DVC member or a guest. The service will be the same.
We always stay at WDW in one of our two home resorts on our points & the front desk has never said a word about the fact that we own there, we typically have very little interaction w/ the front desk because we do online check in & go straight to our villa, though.
The CMs at the park entry turnstiles, OTOH, know we‘re DVC because our MBs often make the entry touchpoints light up pinkish purple .
We've rented many points over the years from friends (and strangers) and we have never been acknowledged as anything but a member (they usually tell us, "Welcome home" when we arrive, etc). and they are always super kind and helpful.
If we were owners, I am not sure we would be able to tell a difference.
