Guess What my Stepmom got for Valentine's

My Dad had his will re-done.

My DSM has been after my Dad for 10 years to get this done. She made the appointment with the lawyer for Valentine's over a month ago and said that was what she wanted. She didn't even tell him about it because she didn't want him to cancel. She emailed him at work and said the appointment is at 1:00.

My Dad's previous will still had my dear mother as heir - she passed away in 1990

My stepmom doesn't have any motives or anything. She just wants to protect us kids and her since he does own a substantial business. She is a widow and knows that a will is very important. I am so thankful that she takes care of him so well. My Dad just doesn't like to think about things like that

and all involved. Death is a part of life, but a lot of people don't want to write a will. DH and I have a living trust, and a will, with all the stuff that goes along with it. Yes, when you die, you don't have to worry about anything, but those you leave behind do. Some states take up to 2 years to settle probate, and if there is no will, some states get everything, then the survivors have to hassle with that.

There are some things that everyone should have (IMHO), fire extinguishers, jumper cables, flashlights and extra batteries, smoke detectors THAT WORK, and a will.

You're right. It's unpleasant, but it's worse to leave everything up to the State. Good for your DSM...

Very good, cinlee. In my business, I have dealt with clients and their estates of both types, with and without wills. With is sooooo much easier.
