Yep...in spite of the rotten week I had, I drug my sorry behind out of bed and did the Portland Race For The Cure! I believe this is my 5th year to participate and I enjoyed every minute of it. Each year there are more and more survivors in the crowd and it makes me feel good to think that I am helping. :thumbsup2

Sorry, the picture got a bit fuzzy when I had to reduce the size. To give you a better idea of the crowd size...I was actually up towards the front of the pack. About 75% of the participants were still behind me. And, this is only from the 5k Walk!!!

YIKES....probably didn't make very good time did ya....

Actually we finished in 1:01...which was good considering we were all pretty much shoulder-to-shoulder.

wow, that's awesome!!! i am going to try and do one next year. we considered doing the 3 day, but i was preggo at the time. i think a 5k is more in my reach. lol

Great for you Calypso! That's awesome. Congratulations! You should come join us on the WISH team. We have lots of walkers on the team too!

Awesome!!!!

I did the Relay for Life this year for the first time. It was a work team & I was technically "on duty" but there were enough people around so I got to walk for a while, then send someone else out to walk a while too.

It was amazing. I got there just in time to see the survivors' lap. One of the kids from DD's school was there. I had a luminary in honor of DH's Aunt - she has just now hit 6 months cancer free - we emailed her pictures on the spot & made her cry.

Good job Girl!

How cool is that?! Wow, I wish I could get up early on a Sunday morning, but I'd never be able to run or even walk for that matter!

Good going! :)

WAY TO GO !!!!!!  :woohoo: :woohoo:

My office is walking/running in the Race For The Cure in a few weeks.

It's always more fun when you have a group of people with you.

Several years ago, my 2 sisters and I participated in the AVON 3 DAY 60 MILE walk in Atlanta. It was hard, but so rewarding.

We hope to do it again someday, but in a different city. :goodvibes :cool1:

Thanks for posting the picture....What a crowd !!!!

I would encourage anyone that has never done this before to give it a try -- it really is a ton of fun. Can you just imagine that very first meeting where someone meekly stands up in front of the group and says: "You know, I think we could do a fundraiser where people pay money to walk or run for a few miles but don't get any prizes or anything..." What do you want to bet that poor sucker was probably laughed out of the room -- but who's laughin' now!!! ;)

Yea....and when we did the AVON thing that I was talking about....we couldn't even enter it until we had EACH raised $1500.00 !!! I don't know what the entry requirements are now.

My mom is a breast cancer survivor, so it meant a lot for "the sisters" to do the 60 mile walk. Crossing the finish line, blisters and all..was just amazing.

I agree with you, everyone should walk it at least once. :goodvibes

Calypso, way to go!

Me, my boys and my mom walked this year in honor of my mom. She was just diagnosed with breast cancer in Jan. (she's doing great.) It's very moving, especially since they hold it on Mother's Day every year.

It's truly amazing.

Way to "Go-Go" Lisa! Quite the crowd. Great job for a great cause! :thumbsup2

Our race is held down near the waterfront and one section of the route is over a bridge -- it is so inspiring to look back from such a high vantage point and see the *thousands* of people walking behind you. It's just amazing and it truly does make you feel like this strength in numbers will find a cure for breast cancer.

Susan -- Excellent job on the fundraising for the Avon event. I'm sure you'll do great with your local Race for the Cure too! :thumbsup2

Back at ya!!! Now let's shoot for DH's Aunt to be 18 mos cancer free...

Here's to continued good health for your mom too...and just think, next Mother's Day will be even more special. :goodvibes

Great job! I'm glad you decided to go in spite of a difficult week. I'm sure you're glad you went too. Yeah you!!! :cheer2:
