Last night, DD's teacher sent home DD's reading list. There were about 16 books on it and I read it as the reading list for the year. So, I ordered them all (except 1) from Amazon, figuring the investment was well worth it. Cost was abut $65. No big deal for a year-long investment.

Re-read the note this morning...it was DD's reading least for the month of September! :earseek: There's no way I can spend $65 a month on books. We're going to the library this weekend to get her a card for next month's books.

Are you sure it was not just a list to chose several from??
The public library is a great thing!! I remember getting my first card...we went as a class......

Are you sure it means she has to read 16 books? Or is it just a list of 16 books she can choose from to read for the month.

Good for you!!! As a former Children's Librarian, I applaud your efforts!!! She'll love the library - and if that's really her reading load for the year, you'd spend several hundred dollars!!!

When you get the list, go ahead and put the books on reserve. They'll trickle in at various times throughout the month, but from a list of sixteen, you should be able to get 4 or 5 to start with. Don't know how big your library system is, but if you have lots of kids asking for the same books, there might not be many copies to go around.

Just curious, would you mind sharing some of the titles? I'd like to see what they consider kindergarten books these days.

It says they are going to be books they're reading in class and that we should "pick them up" to reinforce what's being taught in school. So, it's four books a week.

My DDs love the library. They go weekly. During the school year I will take some of the neighborhood kids with us. DH has gotten on a library kick now :Pinkbounc . He only read magazines, but is now reading books.

My children love to buy books (or order them from Scholastic). But we also use the library a lot! Just wait until your dd starts reading!! My ds is supposed to read for 20 minutes a day and so he reads several beginner chapter books a day!! Now we go to the library every week.

I could never afford to buy all the books my daughter reads! We go to the library every 3-4 days and she takes out 20 books each time we go. If I am lucky my brother will be here that first night and he will help her read a few of them, then I read a few of them with her and then my mom will read some with her while I am at work...They had this project where the whole class had to read 100 books in a month...they would bring in the list of what they read and then color in the graph the number of books they read..well the teacher ended up just having my daughter color in one box everytime she brought her list in or else she would have been coloring almost all in herself!
