Can I bring it on the plane with me to eat? Would TSA consider this a liquid??

No you can't bring more than 3.4 oz of guacamole through security - general rule of thumb is if a substance can't hold its shape outside of its container TSA considers that a liquid. You could bring the single serve prepackaged servings through if they have the oz marked on the packaging and fit in your 3-1-1 bag.

Also - You can purchase anything you like, including liquids, after security to bring on the actual aircraft.

Tell you the truth, what one TSA allows has such a little bearing on what the next TSA allows that when it comes to food, I quit bringing ANYTHING through. It's simply too much of a headache. Rules seem to be pointless from what I've seen, they can't figure them out. I even watched 2 agents argue with each other about what a passenger was allowed to bring. Poor passenger was stuck while the agents sorted it out, no idea if they ever did, I went own about my way. I buy what little food I need on a flight at the airport. Or do without.

Amen, AngiTN. It's so annoying to be told to do something by one TSA agent and then get "yelled at" by another for following instructions. Not even food...my last trip I had several computer external hard drives. Was told I had to remove them from my laptop bag and then got scolded for removing them from my laptop bag.

I had a donut once with me...they told me to toss it or step out of line and wolf it down! So...I'd say NO to the Guac!

So true. Anything can be issues with the TSA. Food seems to be the easiest for them to have problems with since the rules about it are so vague.
From there, they are much like Disney guards and even CM in that they get on their own little power trips at times and decide today I'm going to make up my own rules and be darned if anyone is going to stop me

I don't know if this helps, but I have never had a problems taking whole avocados (or other whole fruits) through security.

We find it easiest to buy food/drinks after we go through security. It's less to carry and we don't worry about getting yelled at.

Buy your food at the airport. It's not worth the hassle to you or the line of people behind you.

Amen to this. I have seen so many times the TSA Dudes fighting over what was and was not allowed. Especially with food. I agree, buy what you need once you are past security to save yourself the hassle. I had them arguing over my candy bar last February and I finally had to wolf it down.

This would generally fit the rule of being considered a liquid.

Also, for those of you taking fruit/veggies etc, please remember never do this if you are flying international unless you consume it before you land in then next country.

I would think it qualifies as a liquid. So put it in 100ml (the graceful way to say 3.4oz) containers and fit them in your 311 baggie, or don't bring it.

That's completely bizarre.

Right. They aren't liquid. But once you've taken a fruit, squashed it, and made it more liquidy so it wouldn't hold its shape outside of a container, then it's a liquid.

UNLESS it's a fruit preserve in a sandwich.

Why does avocado in a sandwich sound delicious but guacamole in one does not? If it sounds nice to you that's a workaround.

Guess we should be thankful that TSA doesn't have bus drivers, imagine what we would be told then? :D

I was just thinking of taking the whole avocados through and mashing post security. I've made a simple guacamole directly in an avocado shell more than one... not ideal but works in a pinch :D

TSA agents are essentially minimum wage security guards with nicer uniforms. They bust people's chops about water and donuts and guacamole, they absolutely profile, but yet at least as of 2017 they missed something like 70% of fake weapons (which was actually an improvement from the 95% miss rate from two years earlier!) that were put through checkpoints.

How are they supposed to find those fake weapons when they are busy stealing passengers' cash and electronics?

Those two gems are admittedly dated, but from my experience working in airports, I can assure you that that type of behavior still goes on routinely.

Our airport is $h!t and has very little food options after security and it is all pre-prepackaged food or a few things they can microwave. With that, I think our TSA there sympathizes and they have never had any issue with people bringing food. I think guac that is in the original packaging and sealed should be fine. But like everyone has said, each place is different.
