GRRRR She has just done it again....a rant from me

When we came back I was showing the pictures to my 2 nephews and they said ..In a couple of years we are going too.

What a long time to wait and neither of them had any concept of what park it was ....To them it was simply a Disney park. They couldn't care less where in the world it was.I honestly dread to see their wee faces when my 2 tell them we are going again

poor little things and like you say it doesn't matter where it is it's the fact it's Disney !! I've tried explaining this to both my sister and my brother whose never taken his 2 and I just think it's sad. If I won the lottery I'd take all my neices and nephews tomorrow !!!

when i tell people in work i'm goin back to dlp again they think its quite sad and make a laugh out of it they call it the "fake disney".. it really winds me up i think they say it on purpose at this stage... i would love for them to go so they could experience it themselves i know for sure it wouldn't be the only time they'd go!

I too have a friend who's been to the 'real disneyland'. She thinks I'm depriving my DD and DS by not taking them to the 'real disneyland' .

I just remind her that while she's done 1 trip to the 'real disney' in 4 years we're now on our 6th trip with a 7th planned in the same amount of time and for far less money!!

I know where I want to be and thats DLP!!!!

While I enjoy DLRP I much prefer WDW.

Florida has so much more to offer than Paris, better weather (in general), better CMs and I find Orlando more of an experience. You also have a greater choice of theme parks, USF, IOA, SeaWorld and many water parks.

DLRP is more manageable, some of the rides are better, BTMR, SM, POTC and Cinemagic is the best show of either Worlds. DLRP has a limited amount of restaurants but you can stock up on cheap beer and cigarettes.

While not knocking DLRP I would rather go to WDW.

Each to their own. However I hate the Florida weather (not too keen on Southern and Midwestern Americans either), and i prefer the West Coast versions of Sea World and Universal, so truth be told, I'd rather be in California than any of the resorts.

However, DLP is beautiful and near, and much cheaper to get to as a family of 4. So we are happy to frequent DLP.

But each to their own - it's your time and money.

I must admit I was guilty of this view in the past. However I didnt slate it publicly I just always felt in my head DLP was lacking a little(plus I was never a huge fan of the french, long story for another day).

However after going there in January my opinions changed. While I love the florida parks it was so nice at DLP. everything felt better planned and laid out. It was wonderful having the 2 parks close together. And everything was just great

We'd go into EMH and ride space mountain a ton of times then flit over to studios giggling like a school boy to ride tower of terror the second it opened. doesnt get much better than that!

So now I'm a convert and intend to go back a bunch. I'll still go to florida now n then but with DLP closer to home its that bit more convenient and easier for short trips etc as well as long ones

its also a great taster for the younger children to test if they are upto themeparks yet as being a little smaller and closer together its less likely to tire them out and make them miserable

I'd love to take mine to Disney Florida too but it'll be a different type of holiday and cost sooooo much more. This trip we can do now & imo theres nothing 'fake' about it. Can't wait for our 1st trip to DLRP!

I can think of lots of reasons for choosing one holiday over another, but honestly this one has never entered my head!

What I really really can't understand is how people can openly badmouth another person's holiday. Many the time a colleague or neighbour has told me that they have booked a holiday to Florida/Thailand/Mexico/Kenya/Skegness ...........none of these destinations appeal to me but I always respond with "Oh fantastic. You'll have such a lovely time at the theme parks/sex shows/tequila bars/safari/Butlins......." or whatever. I am pleased for them that they have booked the holiday of their choice. I would NEVER DREAM of questioning why they are spending their money in that way.

It's funny when I hear this. As many have said, the "real" Disney park, if there is such a thing is in California. And as much as I like Epcot and DAK, I would much rather be at DLP or DL anytime.

I wrote a blog recently talking about how much of a bargain DLP is compared to Florida, and man, did I get quite a hammering from people.

It's a shame. DLP is the most beautiful MK style parks with the best e-tickets compared to it's siblings. Now if we could have shows and entertainment on the scale of DL, then I would call it the perfect park.

Her loss. FWIW - I think the Magic Kingdom in florida is a poor relation.

I totally agree! I went to WDW in Jan (having not been for 10 years) and I wasdisapointed with Magic Kingdom (well as disapointed with a disney theme park as you can be - lets be honest its still great!). The theming and the rides were no where near as good as DLRP, and I think the food in DLRP is much better with its "european" flair. We struggled to eat at MK (although I will say the other theme parks at WDW were much better).

I think there both great overall but totally different places and experiences. What I really like about DLRP is the price, short flight and PARIS!!!!!!!!!!! Although I greatly value the cultural experience that is disney I love going to a "real place" and a very attractive real place at that .... I'm afraid Orlando and its shopping malls don't have the same affect on me.........

What an interesting post. I've not been to either (tbh it's not somewhere I'd wanted to go pre kids - we prefered more 'exotic' destinations lol) BUT having read this site and the Veness guidebook I'm really wished we'd gone as a couple pre kiddies - we are going on our first ever Disney trip to DLP in about 7 weeks or so and I can't wait. I'm just sorry (in a way) that we will be tied with the littlies but then I wouldn't change the picture (and the memory it will give) that will be on my DD1's face for the world! That is priceless and let's face it she'll appreciate the shorter journey (as will we travelling with two youngsters) and smaller park more than she would in Florida - in fact at 3.5 years she won't know the difference! It's Disney to her and us!

I'm sure at some point we'll take them to Florida but not for a few good years yet because of the flight/journey/cost but in the meantime Paris is on our doorstep (almost) and seems ab fab to me

What an interesting thread and also what a terribly sad thread when you think how people who have closed their minds to possibility end up depriving themselves and (more to the point) their children of a magical experience on their doorstep. Snobbery has a lot to answer for. The phrase 'real' Disney gets me too. What does she think DLRP is made of - cheese?

However, the world would be boring if we were all the same, and the cynical viewpoint (expressed many times already) is that if people turn their noses up and choose not to go, then all the more room for those of us that do go!

I have to say from a personal perspective I am so overwhelmed by the sheer size and options and choice involved in any trip to either of the US parks that I am quite likely to never choose to go there at all. There's plenty of other places in the world that I want to go to, so if I can get a manageable amount of disney in a convenient and affordable package, then that's enough for me - will probably never go to a US disney park. I don't see them as being the 'bigger brother' or 'better' in some way; I'd probably hate it, in truth, so big and crowded and with six million choices of where to go and what to do....I'd be overcome.

And with a limited amount of holiday, 3 or 4 days at DLRP is sufficient, then I spend the rest of my annual leave doing other stuff, like camping, theatre trips, lying on a beach in Turkey (3 weeks to go! Yay!) - makes sense to me anyway.

Give me my bitesized DLRP any day.

Like someone else admitted on here, I was guilty of having this opinion at one point, although not as extreme. We took 2 of our kids to WDW a few years ago and loved it. We are planning on taking them back in about 5 years, but we decided we couldn't go without Disney for that long, so booked DLP for June.

As soon as we got home from that trip, we were looking into booking again, for so many practical reasons, price, convenience, flight times etc.

Also personal preference because DLP just seems much more magical, I think, because it's all together, you can get from one park to the furthest away hotel (obv excluding DCR) on foot. The whole place just feels like it's own little world to me. You're there in this small space with sooooo much to see and do and although you are so close to the "real world" you don't feel it at all. I think it's very difficult to get that feeling in WDW, it's very hard to park hop without removing yourself from the world of Disney to do so.

WDW yes it's fun and there's so much to do and see and we will go back for a long holiday in a few years time, but DLP we love it and will be back loads more before.

I have to say that I prefer WDW - its more of a "holiday" when you're away for 2 weeks, as opposed to a "short break" to DLP. I love the other theme parks, the weather, the water parks and its cheaper out there.

But I cannot afford to go every year so again like many of you I need my Disney Fix and am loving the two parks in DLRP.

One of my friends was taking her boys to WDW last year and she was so excited. I helped her plan it and was getting such a buzz out of it all (although I have to admit I was slightly jealous...!!!). I couldnt wait for her to come home and show me the pics and tell me EVERYTHING she did and saw.

She did not like it out there!! She said she walked into MK expecting to get the same feeling that she had when she went to DLP and didnt get it. She said she didnt feel the "magic" in the States like she did in Paris.

She said it was a waste of money going all that way to be so hot all the time, queuing all the time and spending one whole day in the bathroom of her hotel room as there was the possibility of a hurricane hitting.

She had taken her boys to DLRP when they were little, then spent the next 3 years without a holiday saving for her "trip of a lifetime" and didnt enjoy it!!

I would like to go back to WDW but its at least 2010 before I can go, and that means forfeiting a holiday next year. I just dont know whether its worth it, when like this year I have 2 DLRP breaks away, rather than one "main" holiday.

I can imagine what will happen..........

They will go off to Florida and get bitten by the Disney bug.When they return home they will look into booking DLP so they don't have to save for another 4 years to get another Disney fix.....

And I love them both. We had a different experience in France and to me you can't really compare the two parks. You can't go to DLRP thinking it's Florida. We would have had a shock as it was February and FREEZING!!! But it made it fantastic as there was frost in park and all the cast members wore great outfits. I'd have killed for one of their big cloaky overcoats some days.

Well a friend of mine was trying to distill to me the virtues of going to Blackpool instead of Disney as it has equally good attractions but not at there price!!!! I did say my DS is dying to get back to Seaworld too but she said 'There is a Sealife centre in Blackpool'.
Don't get me wrong I loved it when I went there but it just doesn't do it now..........

Lol, that's the truth. I wish we did have something that compared with DLP. Legoland is the closest thing, but again that's Holiday Inn Express in comparison - though the bonfire fireworks at Legoland are awesome (beating even the US parks)
