Grrrr! Can Alamo do this?

We reserved a car for Asheville, NC from Alamo months ago. We're picking it up from the airport on 8/9 and returning it there a week later. Today when I logged in to confirm, the total suddenly went up by $35 or so right in front of my eyes!! ARGH!! How can they do that? I read the fine print and it states that the final price might vary from the quoted reservation price SLIGHTLY. Is that slightly???? ARGH!! Can they do that to me???

If you printed your confirmation, maybe you can figure out where the difference is. I would call Alamo and find out why they changed your price. I would bring the print out and they should honor your original price.
I've used Alamo many times in MCO and also in AZ and never had this happen.

I rent a car about 15-20 times per year and while the grand total usually does vary by a few dollars when I get my final receipt upon returning the car (usually the final price is cheaper). However, all my reservations say the rate is guaranteed. So while the takes and such may cause the variance in price the actual rate does not increase.

Does Alamo guarantee their rates? Dod your rate increase or are there other fees added.

My guess is the taxes and surcharges changed, which are just passed through the rental company from the governing agency (airport, county, state, etc.) and can change or increase at anytime and is not part of the rate/price you were guaranteed.

When I log into my National and Alamo accounts I can see all my past rentals and they say 'subject to final audit'

Just out of curiosity, I went to check my reservation for next week. Lo and behold, it went down! A whole whopping $1.08.

Hey, it's 1/3 of a mickey bar, right?
