I called the treasurer to remind him about paychecks yesterday and he said he would stop on the way to work and sign them. When I came in at 9, they weren't signed. I called him at work at 9:20 to make sure nothing had happened to him. He said "I'll be by sometime." Not even an apology or anything......I get off at 1 and my paycheck had best be signed by then....How irresponsible.

Hmmmm...stalling to sign the paychecks? I know I'm a skeptic, but hope there's money in the bank to cover them.

Oh, I know there's money in the bank. I'm the bookkeeper. This guy is just responsible for signing checks.

I assume HIS paycheck is either already signed and deposited, or is so big he doesn't care.

I hate that. Good luck!!!

One of my old bosses was the exact opposite....he would leave SIGNED CHECKS all over the place. If he was going out of town he would sign a zillion checks and just leave them open in his office. There were people in and out of the office all day and any of them could have grabbed a check. He had this big shelf like thing and there were 25 different checks (From different accounts) just sitting there...not locked up....NOTHING. I thought he was sooo stupid......he is one of the richest men in the state and very powerful yet he doesn't lock his checks up???? Stupid! Its no surprise he has been stolen from (large amounts of money) like 5 different times. Makes me wonder how he ever got money!

I wouldn't even care if my college still did things the way they used to with financial aid (we got the checks the week before classes started if we had direct deposit) but they changed it to getting our money on the first day of classes. If they did it the old way, I'd already have that money in the bank and I'd just borrow from that account until I got my paycheck.
He's still not here and it's 12:40....I'm going to talk to the pastor on Monday and ask him to have a strongly worded talk with the treasurer. This is incredibly irresponsible.

Okay....It's almost 1:30 and he still hasn't gotten here. I'm going to call him one more time and ask him if I need to meet him somewhere closer to his job for him to sign my check. Otherwise, I'm going to have to use the credit card that's in the church's name and that I have signing privileges on for my expenses this weekend and just pay them back when I do get my paycheck. After all, it's certainly not my fault that the person that they chose to sign checks is too irresponsible to do so.
Update: When I called him this time, he said that he'd forgotten all about me and that he'd be here in a little while.

Ugh - I hope he gets there! My boss locked my paycheck in her office last week - I was off paycheck day. She's gone all week, and she told my editor, "Oh, I'll just give her the check when I get back on Monday." Um, no! I work for prompt paychecks!

:D Glad you finally got your paycheck, Honeywolf. I hate having to chase around for my money.

Had this happen to me this past week. Both doctors took Friday off and they left the paychecks locked up in their desk. I didn't get paid until Monday and I was NOT happy about it as I went out of town on Saturday and could have used some of that money as spend money.

My 17yo DDs boss does this all the time. She lives in a newly bulit 4000 square foot McMansion, but for some reason has a hard time getting DDs $100 paycheck to her on time. Pay day is every Thursday and here it is Friday (again) and no paycheck. I'm calling her tomorrow morning to tell her we'll be stopping by to pick it up. I'm sure she'll say it's not there, her computer is down, or give another lousy excuse. She'll eventually get it but I think it's shameful to do that to an employee.

Honeywolf, Good for you for not letting him off the hook! I would still have a talk with someone Monday about his irresponsibility.

TC:cool:

That's a bad habit to start.

I'm glad he finally got there and you got your check.:) I'd definately have someone talk to him about this. Is there any way to do direct deposit for your check?

Browneyes, luckily it wasn't something I had to do but I know my minister would have understood if I had to (otherwise, I would never even think of doing it.) I don't think there's a way to do direct deposit....the church only has three employees (the pastor, me, and the music minister.)

So because the treasurer is somewhat irresponsible, that gives you the right to take the church credit card and use it for your personal gain over the weekend???

You need to start a savings account NOW for exactly these moments when unexpected things happen.

What would you be doing if you didn't have access to a credit card? How would you have paid for your expenses then?

Incredible.

The treasurer must be an unpaid volunteer so maybe he had a hard time getting away from his regular job that day. HW said that there were only 3 paid employees for the church and none of them was treasurer.

Jypsy is right about needing an emergency fund. You really should have enough cash to cover things like that.

If this is a one-time thing I don't think I would start trouble by complaining to the pastor.
