DD fractured her big toe at gymnastics last night. She was given a splint at the pediatric doctor and was sent to the orthopedic doctor; all he provided was a boot which she can take off daily. No PE or gymnastics for 4 to 8 weeks.

Her toe hurts when she tries to walk in the boot. What if anything else can I do for her?

Nothing really. When I broke a toe it hurt more to splint it so I just wore tennis shoes and I was fine. Mainly you just give it time. If it really hurts, give her some ibuprofen.

My DS(12) recently separated the growth plate in his toe and was given crutches for the first week or so and then boot. Once in the boot he didn't seem to have much of an issue.

our daughter broke her thumb in the growth plate area and had to wear a cast on her arm all the way to her thumb......I thought at first .."just for a thumb" but it is very important for mobility later on in life....so whatever they say do it

Nothing really you can do. My son broke his leg on his growth plate. After it healed, the doctor had him come back for several years after to take once a year x-rays and make sure the bone was growing properly. It was. Had there been an issue, the doctor would have gone in and surgically corrected it.
