Hi. We live in Jersey and I am sooo not a gardener LOL but I planted a pumpkin seed back at the beginning or end of June, I forget which. Anyway, I have watered it and pretty much the thing hasn't even got past the flowering stage yet. There is a green flower but no orange pumpkin yet. Wondering if it will ever grow?

In the 4 years I attempted to grow pumpkins, I've had one. I was so happy that I couldn't cut it to make a jack-a-lantern. So it sat on my back step till February.

We planted some pumpkin plants and have nothing. :( I'm so bummed. I hope you get one.

It depends on what kind of pumpkins you planted, if is was a regular size pumpkin like the ones you get at the grocery store the flower should turn into a pumpkin soon. My grandson always gardens with me and he planted regular pumpkins and they are about the size of basketballs now. We also planted the big Max pumpkins and they are a little smaller but will be 50 to 90 pounds when they are done. You need to fertlize them alot. Pumpkins take about 90 to 120 days to grow depending on the type you plant. Hope that helps.

First, you planted late - pumpkins should be flowering in July in order to have mature ones before frost.

Second, with only one plant you are going to need to hand pollinate. The male flowers blossom straight from the stem, the female flowers have a bit of a round bulge between the stem and flower. You should be able to find pictures and instructions online.

Frankly, it's already getting cold here, I wouldn't even bother trying this year.

My DBIL does pumpkins for the local Pumpkin Show in October. He plants in May. You might want to check how fertile your soil is. He has a 50 gallon drum of fertizler for his. After they start growing, he picks 2 that look the best and removes all the others so all the water and nutrients go to single plant. He has a canopy to cover during hot summer months and to protect from storms. The he waters the heck out of them. Last year his pumpkin weigh in at 732 pounds. The winner at the Pumpkins Show last year was over 1300 pounds.

We grew pumkins for the first time this year. We only got one!

A critter took our pumpkin - we bury ours from Halloween every year, and this was the second time we got an actual pumpkin from the flowers - stupid squirrel!
