Groupon/LivingSocial

Kind of fading here, a lot of businesses pulling out. It generates a lot of one time visits, but not the return visits the need to make Groupon specials profitable.

Groupon is getting more popular in this area. In addition to the daily deal, (or whatever it is called,) they list about 4-5 alternate deals. Some of those are more interesting that the highlighted deal.

I'm waiting for the next deal on ballroom dancing to be offered.

I missed out on the previous 2 deals, as I was too sick to dance back then.

I don't know about other cities, but there are great $1 deals on Chicago Groupon today!

Just sent my kid and mother out for $1 boat tours, but just missed $1 for $10 lunches at one of our favorite places. The catch is that they must be used today.

Not to mention the $1 Hancock Tower deal. Groupon Now looks interesting.

I'm looking forward to using our $60 for $25 groupon to Geja's Cafe.

I love Groupon! I've gotten $60 worth of meats from my favorite meat market for $30. I got two Dolphin cruises for $10. each and my most recent favorite is I got a tandem skydive certificate for 1/2 price. Awesome deal and my husband is gonna love it!

Things do tend to peak and fade first here in California.

That sounds more like the fault of the business than Groupon. The purpose is to get people in the door and show them why they need to come back. If the business doesn't impress, customers won't return.

But this company didn't peak first in CA.

Friends of mine who have used Groupon to promote their businesses have been quite happy and as a customer I have been too.

Their new "Now Deals" (just launched yesterday in Chicago, I'm not sure about other markets) have been pretty darn neat.

I redeemed a mani/pedi groupon yesterday. I asked the technician how she liked the groupon experience.

She had some good things to say. She had many more awful things to say. She is entirely booked until the end of August with groupon business. Her groupon rep wouldn't let her specify things - like how many to offer. Nor would she allow for special terms (i.e. 24 hours cancellation notice or groupon is forefeited.)

She knows this is all 1-time business - because she can't schedule repeat customer requests.

She did a great job!! But I do not think she would do groupon again.

Then that's an issue with her specific Groupon rep or region. At least two of the personal services offers in Boston today require a 24 hour cancellation or cancel/reschedule or there's a penalty. One is 'up to the value of the Groupon' and I forget the other.

I need a haircut...and color :umbrella:. When I find the right combination of location and regular price, I'll buy the Groupon. If I like the work, I'll go back - and pay full price.

Groupon headquarters is actually Chicago based. It would be natural for them to try out new procedures at their home base. :thumbsup2

Groupon & these types of websites haven't peaked yet here in NYC, here are THREE other similar kinds of websites. They all offer different deals by many different companies. I think the smaller companies like the smaller websites. They can still offer a deal, and put a cap on how many deals are actually sold, not something I've seen very much at Groupon.

This first site is really activity oriented, rather than just buying items or services. I have really been keeping my eye on this site:
http://www.zozi.com/new-york

Click on "I'm already a subscriber, SKIP" to bypass to deals:
http://livingsocial.com/cities/3-new-york/today

This one, click the X to bypass entering an email and it brings up the page for daily deals:

The policies are different per how the individual business operates. That's the way they should be.

I've cashed in on 2 Groupon haircuts at big salons. :woohoo: I have one more saved up which includes a Moroccan Oil treatment. The treatment alone is usually the price of this Groupon. :yay:
