Just noticed in the latest Disney Catalogue some really cute shirts that you can order and have personalized. I want to do this for our next cruise in Nov. which we are taking with some friends. They DO have a fab five (maybe six) tee available, but I was thinking if anyone out there has seen anything more appropriate for the cruise..something more along the lines of a nautical Mickey...we will be two couples each with a dd ( 5 and 3 yrs old.) If anyone has seen any shirts I can substitute and have either embroidered or just paint myself..please let me know! Thanks guys....and btw,..check out my way kewl new counter! I LOVE that thing! Ciao for now!

Check it out. I found it on Google. Mickey the Sailor.

At each of our family vacations, I create a family logo with each members name, the location and year. I print the logo onto hp iron-on transfer paper from my color ink jet printer. It is so easy and fun for the whole family to do together before the cruise ever starts. You can then tie dye them, paint with fabric markers or just leave the WHITE shirt plain.

This is my new one for our Aug 3 Western Cruise. My family hasn't even seen it yet. But I've got something special in store for the Grandparents. Shhhhhh...

Make sure you have fun with it!

tinkerbell4two, I love your idea! We're not cruising until next year, but I'm already planning matching T-shirts for the 10 of us, so always looking for good ideas. I've been experimenting with the iron-on transfer computer paper (very easy to use, just follow directions) to make both a "logo" or common item for each, plus I'll put on something personal for each sucker. Oops, I mean relative. But your design is just awesome! Craft stores frequently run T-shirts on sale at ~$3 each (slightly more for XXL sizes), in a wide variety of colors, so it can be fun to experiment!

tinkerbell4two..
LOVE your family logo! You are sooo creative and your family will treasure them! My son-in-law made soccer team iron-on logos on printer and team had such fun making shirts. They turned out so neat !!

the very same thing. I have done alot of other craft items on the computer with various available papers..some worked great others..not too much. What I was considering though...was the cost of ink. I have availability to those $3 craft store tees so that's not a problem. And I also like the preciseness of the computer (perfect circles!)..but are you happy with the quality? It doesn't look cheap does it? Thanks for all your ideas guys!

This is the first time I've tried HP iron-on transfers. I just made two shirts last night and need to wash them. A few years ago, I used iron-on transfers from a color wax tektronics printer. It worked fine, but I didn't use white shirts and wherever I had designated it to be "white" turned out to be the color of the shirt. So, I just went in with fabric paint and made it white by hand. Beginners mistake.
Right now the shirts look great. I'll post a shot of them once I get them washed. I made the logo about 3.5 x 3.5 at 300 dpi which makes the text very clear. It also helps that I have a color photo printer to make the logo sharp. I like to buy good quality shirts that don't shrink funny when washed and that aren't see through.

A few years ago my entire family (30 people in all) went on a cruise for my parent's 50th anniversary.

My sister designed a beautiful t-shirt which we had printed by a local screen printer. It wasn't all that expensive and the quality was excellent. This is probably better for a larger group as the price per shirt goes down with larger orders because of the set-up charges. I wish I had a picture scanned, there were gold rings with doves, really nice on the navy shirts. We were asked about the shirts the whole trip!

We are cruising on the Magic for Halloween and one of our fellow cruisers has made up a design for us. He is offering them to us at a small cost to cover his expenses. If you would like to see the designTee-shirt logo

These ideas are great! I'd like to try something like this for my Girl Scouts for our trip!
(Gee, this site is just as productive as it is fun!!):D

I used Adobe Illustrator 8.0 for the text logo. For photos and text I use Photoshop. I've used these programs at work for years and use them for everything. You can get similar results with many other software packages.

I just tie-dyed 7 (or half) of the shirts that we will be using for the cruise. I used a royal blue dye and created hidden Mickeys in the shirts. DH actually loves his. He is not a fan of tie-dye for the most part, but the hidden mickeys made him much more interested.
