This is just something funny that happened to us on our trip.

If you ever want to experience a real life scene from the movie Groundhog Day, simply go to COP when it breaks down.

We were in the final Christmas scene when the rotating system broke down. They didn't offer us the exit, which was fine for me, and we sat there through three showings of the Christmas scene.

That happened to us to when we were there in June! It was actually really funny. :rotfl: It wasn't the Christmas scene though. It was the.....I want to say Depression Era one, but that's probably not the name of it.

Yep, been there, done that.

It was on our last trip a couple of weeks ago. We were in the '40s portion, and somebody in another portion of the attraction left via the emergency exits (I guess). There was a Cast Member announce something like "please wait until the attraction is over before leaving"... and we were stuck in the '40s for 2 rotations. Then when we moved it wasn't synched up, so when we rotated we caught it halfway into the guy's speil.

When we got off we all went to the bathroom. My son and I were using the facilities, and I said something like "In the bright near future, some rascal will probably come up with automatic flushing toilets & urinals" which got a giggle out of him (at least).

My opinion: One of the most dated attractions of them all.

Ha! That happened to us also in June, we were in the scene where the mother was sewing I believe, we stayed in the same scene six times at least. It has been almost six months and every now and then I still just start singing It's a great big beautiful tommorow, and my daughter will say please don't sing that song.

We had the same thing happen to us! We saw the second scene at least four times (this was waaaaay back when I was a teenager). I still remember all the words to that part!

There must be a safety system that stops the carousel if someone exits, no doubt installed after the fatal accident several years ago. I think the accident was at Disneyland in California.

Can you explain?

Also as much of a Disney nut as I am, Im not too "up" on DL. Do they have an identical COP?

COP originally premiered at the 1964 World's Fair, it was then relocated to DL as part of their "new Tomorrowland" renovation in the late-1960s (1968?). Then relocated to WDWs MK. The Carousel theater in DL was renovated to America Sings (where most of the animatronic characters from Splash Mountain made their debut). During the show, a female CM was taking a "shortcut" between the theaters while it was revolving and was crushed between a moving wall and stationary wall. As to the exact year, I'm not sure, I think it was during the America Sings version at DL, after COP had opened at WDW. I don't think any guests were in either of the two adjoining theaters at the time of the accident.

EDIT: Found this account of the accident on Snopes.com

The carousel building now houses DLs version of Innoventions, it is no longer a seated theater, but it continues to revolve.
