Ground was broken this week for Avatarland

Bottom line: The project is happening whether the negative Nancies here want it or not. I'm sure the project is in capable hands, that all the market research points to a successful profitable return, and that it will be a great addition to the park.

I really don't care for the Harry Potter movies, but I didn't go on the internet and spew toxic sludge because Universal decided to spend millions putting it in their parks. Actually, I'm very interested in trying it out one day.

Take a breath, turn off the caps lock, and just let the well-qualified professionals in charge of these things do their jobs and make magic for us.

That is all. Peace.

Yubbie

Kind of apples and oranges. You don't have to be a HP fan to recognize that adding that to Universal is not only good business, but it also fits in perfectly with what that park is meant to be.

how many little kids (and some of us older ones) will be TERRIFIED of huge blue monsters (even if they are NICE monsters)...

will there be a whole thread of screaming child photo-ops a la the Beverly thread?

will Disney offer PTSD therapy for Avatarland nightmares?

cannot, for the life of me, figure out how this will be fun.......:rotfl2:

How many little kids (and some of us older ones) are TERRIFIED of huge black rodents or plushy vandalizing aliens trying to hug them to death (even if they are nice black rodents or vandalizing aliens.)

Does Disney offer PTSD therapy for Main Street nightmares?

Is Disney going to force you to interact with, or even set foot in Avatarland?

How about waiting until it is completed before condemning it?

Sully is a huge blue monster and he is widely accepted by children of all ages ;)

The description of the attractions that were posted last week sounded really interesting and it didn't seem to have characters involved.

Or how about like these demure characters form vintage World Showcase that I just came across? had no idea they had existed.

A landmark event: The first time we won't be interested in visiting at Land at Disney.

The description of the flying attraction in this blog sounds really good.

So many people are quick to write this "land" off as an attraction they won't want to visit. Why not just wait and see how it is when it is finished before you make a decision?

I'm not interested in Winnie the Pooh, but that doesn't stop me from riding and enjoying the attraction. The only thing Animal Kingdom was missing when it opened was a land dedicated to something from our imagination, not a real place that exists on our own Earth, and we are finally getting that. I am not a huge fan of Avatar, but the thought of walking through Pandora is exciting to me and I am definitely looking forward to this.

Because it is an awful idea? Disney is spending hundreds of millions of dollars on a land based on a movie that was mildly successful and three years later has largely been forgotten by the public. This isn't a hugely successful book/movie franchise like Harry Potter or Star Wars or even Indiana Jones. I'm completely puzzled by this decision. The first Star Wars movie was released appoximately 37 YEARS ago and is still wildly popular, as evidenced by the massive crowds that attend Disney's Star Wars weekend. Who decided that a land based around Avatar is a better idea than one based around Star Wars or Indiana Jones, which would be a perfect fit for Animal Kingdom? That person should be fired.

And on edit, I forgot to mention how popular the Jedi Training Academy is. Maybe Star Wars isn't a "fit" for Animal Kingdom, but the decision to build Avatar-themed rides is perplexing to say the least. When it is completed in 2020 maybe I'll be proved wrong.

You consider the highest grossing film of all time to be "mildly successful?" #2 all time when adjusted for inflation as well.

Another cry and whine fest on the disboards. At least these forums are one thing... Consistent. If Disney does anything or does nothing, there will always be crying and whining on the disboards.

Really? In North America Avatar is the 13th highest grossing film. You know what is second? Star Wars. 12th? Empire Strikes Back. 15th? Return of the Jedi. 17th? Star Wars The Phantom Menace (an awful movie). So yes, for people who are likely to visit Disney World I consider Avatar a mildly successful movie. Does Disney have an Avatar weekend? Do you see Avatar characters in local parades?

Do you have a point to make?

According to imbd, avatar is the highest grossing of all time.

I get it, you're a fan of Star Wars and disappointed it didn't get its own land, yet. However, a lot of guests do come from foreign countries. In fact, last year international guest growth outpaced domestic guest growth, so international gross DOES matter. I wouldn't rule out Disney having some kind of Avatar themed characters in an AK parade yet either. Star Wars would never have fit the them of AK anyway, why does that matter?

I frankly don't care about Star Wars, I just question the idiots who thought an Avatar themed land was a good idea. Avatar is the 13th highest grossing film in N. America. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_films_in_Canada_and_the_United_States. Almost a half billion dollars behind a single Star Wars film. And there's little chance anyone cares about the next Avatar. Hell, Transformers land would have been a better idea. "Foreign countries" is a bit misleading. What foreign countries? South American countries? Asian countries? Are you the guy who came up with the awful idea that Disney should create an Avatar land?

Actually, by the time it is done, the Avatar sequel will be out and it WILL be exciting. And as far as Carsland is concerned, why would they want to make a carbon copy of the area in DL? Not to mention the fact that even my 8 year old son, who LOVED Cars for years, is so over it. I can't wait to see what the end product looks like with Avatar!

Edited to add: And as much as my family absolutely loves Star Wars, it wouldn't lend itself to very attractive theming or animal/plant life : )

Foreign would be anything non-domestic, outside of the USA, it's quite simple. International travelers make up over 20% of the visitors annually to Disney World and the rate is growing. How would Transformers be a better idea for a land in AK than Avatar?

Also, AVATAR 2, 3, & 4 are still in the works to come out in 2016, 2017, and 2018 respectively.

Keep scrolling down to the not adjusted by inflation and avatar is #1.
