I was just goofing around and found a crazy good offer thru Allegiant Air for a flight to SFB for my upcoming trip ($19 each way :yay:). Now I am trying to secure ground transportation to POFQ before I seal the deal. There are four of us, so a sedan would do; no grocery stop needed; arriving around 8pm 5/23 and leaving a week later.

What's my best option, DIS SFB vets? Do I go with a cheap towncar service? Rent -and if so from where? Can I catch a a bus? a cab? a magic carpet?

Thanks in advance!

You either rent or go the car service route. Taxi rides to WDW run $125.00 from Sanford. Sometimes more. Car service runs $40.00 to $75.00 less based on round trip rates. Keep in mind with car service if you choose a town car thinking that is the cheapest rate, you may be thinking wrong. Many SUV or van drivers run on the same rate as a town car. Second off the best ride of the three is the SUV. I don't know what kind of rates you get out of Sanford for a rental car.

The orlandosanfordairport.com airport website has a page you can get a list of the companies permitted at that airport.

A sedan Town Car would be good for 4 passengers. A cheap one.. the price that's your choice, like with most everything else you get what you pay for. You can go to the Sanford Airport website to view websites.

'Cheap' is a relative term. Most car services will run you about $180-200 r/t from Sanford to WDW. Four will fit just fine.

Dollar has a $19.00 a day special and currently has a mid-size vehicle for $196.00 and a full size vehicle for $227.00 which includes tax. Of course this is from 5/24/09-5/30/09. If I use 5/23/09 as the start date the rates are much higher. You need to plug in code ooag (letter O, not zeroes). Best of luck as we'll be there 5/17/09-5/23/09 so hope we see you there.

We also got air from Allegiant for $29.00 each way, however due to the nickle and diming our airfare still came out to $350.00 for 3 of us, which still isn't bad. The hard part for us is having to drive to the airport in MFE from SAT.

:woohoo: Great deal on Allegiant....I got $29 going to Sanford from Allentown & $39 coming back....all in al with luggage fees , tax...and some add ons i didnt even understand it was $258 roundtrip for me & my nephew in late June!:cool1:

Anyhoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo I've been flying into Sanford for years. Many people find it much easier & cheaper to rent from Alamo for one night & drop the car off at WDW's Alamo location.

Thanks one and all for the responses! What a helpful bunch we have here on the DIS.:goodvibes

Great tip about Alamo, DisUnc. (nice to see ya' BTW)

Follow up questions: I see that Alamo's WDW desk is at the Swolphin. Anyone know how the after hours drop off works? I think I can figure how to drop off the car and make it back to POFQ; I just want to be sure they're open late. Also, I don't rent many cars so pardon my naivete', but would I be able to go ahead and book a car for the return trip on 5/30?

You are most likely going to save a fortune on airfare--I would rent a car for the week. Most major rental companies have cars at Sanford--drive to WDW and have the car for anything else you may want to do. Car/taxi service round trip is probably as much (or more) than some weekly car rentals!

When booking airfare with Allegiant a lot of fees can be removed ( like seat selection and priority boarding) Priceline name your own price is also a good option for renting a car at Sanford.

The Swolphin????:lmao:

Great to see you too....how are you?:goodvibes

I know Alamo has a place outside the MK parking lot....with busses going to resorts.
And yes I would book a return trip....but also check out the weekly rates it just miht be the same.:thumbsup2

I thought that Priceline didn't have rates from Sanford? Have you been successful with this?

The counter is at the Dolphin and it does close down at 4pm. Not sure how it would work for later returns. I know I have picked up my car late at night there but I did all the paperwork and got my keys before they closed down at 4. You may want to see what the cost would be to return the car first thing the next morning..then you could head over there for 8am, return the car and take the Dolphin bus to the park of your choice.

(Swolphin= Swan+Dolphin)

I am not sure. In he priceline system they offer rates and name you own price for "Central Florida Regional Airport SFB". I know SFB stands for Sanford but I am not positive that this is the same airport. I am trying to find out.

I tried this too, but it said that it was not available there

When you type SFB in the "Airport Code" box on priceline it will give you two options "Central Florida Regional Airport" or "Sanford Orlando" If I choose the Sanford Orlando option I get the message Priceline does not offer cars at this location. However if I choose the Central Florida Regional Airport I am allowed to view rental car rates for the airport. I checked the address on one of the rental company s information on the priceline website and it was the Sanford Airport address. I was able to submit a bid for a minivan $20. I did not get my bid. I hope I am not missing something. I think you can use Priceline at Sanford. Pricelines airport terms are just "GOOFY" I am going to keep trying to win a low bid.

Well, after starting a couple of threads I have decided against flying Allegiant after all. Upon scanning many reviews about Allegiant, too many red flags re delays. :scared: My spidey sense tells me not to take the gamble with my family's vacation. From reading the reviews it sounds like we just might have a wonderful flight with Allegiant, or then again we just might get stuck in airport Hades. Bottom line: not a gamble I'm willing to take.

So, I guess we'll pack up the minivan and make the 10-hour pilgrimage to WDW. The kids can bask in the glow of the portable DVD players while DW and I share the driving. Ehhh, I notice that SWA is dropping it's rates on the RDU-MCO route. If they fall just a wee bit more... :)

Anyhow, thanks for all the info. It all goes into helping me make an informed decision.

We just returned from Disney on Friday and flew into and out of Sanford for the first time. We used a company ( I can't remember the full name right now) and the driver's names was Miguel, who is the owner of the company. He picked us up in a Lincoln Navigator, had DVDs for our three kids (3,3,4), and said he would stop as often as we needed him to. Their price was $110 ROUNDTRIP. He explained that he was building his business by charging the same for RT transportation from Sanford as others were charging from MCO. He was courteous and a safe driver. The vehicle was clean and comfortable and could accommodate up to six adults. We also needed two boosters and 1 car seat which he included in the price.

I would use their services again. Please give him my name (login) in as a referral.

Bumping this thread because I just booked a trip for my family using Sanford airport and Allegiant Airlines. :)

I chose Allegiant because I can either drive 2 hours to Pittsburgh and both my sister and I would have to pay parking fees for a week, or I can drive 2 hours to Hagerstown, Md and have free parking. We don't need priority boarding, or suitcases for each of us, so I removed those options. Our tickets cost $172 each, round-trip, choosing seats together.

I'm looking forward to NOT having to negotiate around a huge, bustling airport! I have flown from Pittsburgh to Orlando before, and I hate feeling lost and like I have no idea what to do now or where to go. And I'm in charge and will have my sister and 3 children all looking at me to know what to do. both Hagerstown and Sanford airports look like small, easily-negotiated places.

Bump... anyone have a car service they want to add.
