Grocery stores!

Hey,

We are going for the cheapest trip ever, and I was wondering if anybody could tell me what grocery stores in the area has the best prices.

We have a microwave and fridge in our room, so we plan on taking advantage of that, but I have no idea of what stores have the most decent prices on food.

I believe there is a Vons grocery store that is pretty close. You can go to their web site when you are very close to find out what their weekly ad is, and match up any coupons and bring them with you. There also is a Target really close. A Safeway too.

Last trip to DL we used Albertsons. We decided to have the order delivered and we were pleasantly surprised.

The delivery fee was reasonable and everything was perfect. We have lots of fruit in our room and all the produce was exactly what I would have chosen.

You can select delivery windows (last year is was 2 hours). They arrived at the beginning of the delivery window......courious and efficient.

Ok, ok.....I am guessing you know we were completely satisfied.

We will be going for a week with friends in a 2 BR villa at the Grand Californian....again.....we will be having Albertson's deliver for us.

We used to stop on the way from the airport...but now it's just one less stop.

Albertsons doesn't deliver any more, but I think Vons does.

Just a note, we drove to Vons in the evening (dark out) after checking in and it was pretty scary. Not the best area of town. Bars on the windows and security guard at the front door. Just FYI.

I don't think there is a Safeway because Safeway and Vons are the same company and Northern California has Safeway while Southern California has Vons. Just wanted to make that clarification so no one goes looking for the Safeway. You can however use a Safeway club card at Vons (and vice versa).

Food 4 Less - on Katella about a mile west of DLR - has the best prices although my DW also shops at Albertson's. F4L is a no-frills store - bag it yourself kind of place.

here is a map, you can see target is down the street and the art shuttle can take you there, or you can drive. its not to far at all.

you also have not told us where your staying, if you have a car, or flying in etc. I plan to go to target to get my essentials, cases of water, pop, juice, snacks. I will be taking a taxi down and back.

I don't mean to hijack this post, but we will need a grocery store run to see how much we can pack into our little fridge at our DGC Hotel. I will be buying sodas, water, BABY FOOD (need a good variety of Gerbers), fruit and dry snacks (chips, etc). I will be going alone at night. Due to the posting of Von's being scary and in a bad area.......is there a better choice for me that would be close driving ( I get lost so easy) and have a good variety of baby food, fresh fruit and snacks. Price isn't an issue because we use the "when we're on vacation it doesn't matter, we'll skimp at home!!"

The Vons we went to was on Chapman just down from Harbor. I think I am going to take advantage of my hotel's free grocery shopping service this time so I don't have to worry about it.

I was going to have vons delivery ( on line store) but man have you seen there prices? a candy bar 4 ozs for 1.79? totally outrageous. Target has everything we will need, and at way better prices. I just hate to have to take a taxi there LOL
anyone know how late targets are open at night?

I believe Target is open until 10pm each night. We shopped at Von's on Chapman but Food 4 Less on Katella had better prices. Both Von's and Food 4 Less had a much greater range than Target.

We have only tried this once at DL and we happened to have JUST checked into our room. We walked in....the phone rang....and the food was on the way.

I believe bell services will hold it for you like they do at WDW when a food delivery order arrives.


Can you setup a time when you KNOW you will be in or near your room?

We have done a Food 4 Less and the Vons. Both are close drives..and BOTH are in creepy areas. Personally, I would go with Vons though...like a Safeway..it didn't long to get there..very easy to find..Mapquest it...

I would like to know this to..... will vons leave at the front desk? or put it in a room?
