We are going to OKW in a week for 16 days. I am looking for grocery stores in the area. We have a car so transportation won't be a problem. I would like to find a store that is large and has a good supply of meats, fish Etc. A Gourmet store so to speak. thanks MJ

For everyday foods, there are both a Publix and a Winn-Dixie within short drives. The W-D is probably closer. Turn left fron Hotel Plaza Blvd onto SR 535 and go about a mile or so. The W-D is in a fairly new strip shopping center just past the ABL Liquor Store.

The Publix is behind the Premium Outlets near I-Drive.

When at home, we usually shop Publix, but in July at OKW we used W-D exclusively because it was closer.

For "gourmet" there's always Petty's, but it's in Longwood--a LONG haul east on I-4.

There might be something in/around the Dr. Phillips area.

Regardless, you should probably check the yellow pages and call for directions.

I believe the Goodings store is considered gourmet...I'm sure someone will correct me if Im wrong...:confused3

FWIW.....

The last time I was in Goodings there was a POOR selection of fruits/vegetables--everything was pre packaged. Also a poor selection of meats, etc.

Besides being a poor selection, most things were, to my family, OVERPRICED!

That's why we shop at W-D or Publix. (We might go to Petty's in Longwood or bring something from our local Melbourne Petty's.)

Totally agree. The produce and everything else for that matter at Goodings were just your average run of the mill stuff to us and, prices on everything were very high. We haven't tried the Winn Dixie but will give it a try next time.

Scooter,

We found the Winn-Dixie by 'accident' when we went to the ABC liquor store.

Like I said, we usually shop at Publix at home, but the W-D was more convenient. As for Goodings, NEVER AGAIN!!!

One note, though: For some of W-D's 'specials' you need a discount card. If you don't have one, check at the Service Desk as the cards are free. You might have to give a local address/phone though.

Thanks for the info - we had a dickens of a time trying to find grocery stores even though I had printed directions before we left home. Could have been that we were tired from that 6 am flight!! I've copied the info into a folder so we'll be prepared next time. We're with you on Goodings -- never, ever again!!
