Now in our single-digit (almost can count it on one hand) dance  heading to HH next week. What grocery stores are available (looking especially for good meat and produce) in the area?

Also, trying to get a packing list together, thought others could benefit and add to:
laundry and dish detergent.
Bleach (good tip to clean the jacuzzi tub jets)
queen/full fitted sheets (someone mentioned they prefered their own sheets)
fishing poles, golf clubs, kites, beach toys for the toddler, pool noodles
sunblock, insect repellant (heard skin so soft works better than OFF)
coffee filters, coffee
papertowels, TP if you prefer 2-ply
night light
DVD's
deck of playing cards, board games
salt/pepper, tablecloth for picnic table on deck

We're trying to pack light. some of it we can buy at the store when we get there. we only bring the board and game pieces in a small ziplock bag, don't need the whole box. conserves space.

Feel free to add on!

If your trying to pack light, I would skip the sheets... they are fine, unless your super sensitive......

We shop at the Piggly wigglely which is near the resort. Not the cheapest not the most expensive, and very convienent. (Cheaper than Goodings at WDW, more expensive than publics)

To add to the list....

I would bring a light jacket, extra swimsuits, flashlight for night exploring, books to read while the liitle one sleeps, citranella (ha cant speel) candles for the porch, magnetic screens for the door....

For groceries, we almost always go to Publix. It's a little further than Piggly Wiggly, but I think it's cleaner and has a better selection. The one as you're coming on the island (near Wal-Mart) is bigger (and we usually need a Wal-Mart run for SOMETHING that we've forgotten :rolleyes1 ). There is a closer one is near Sea Pines Circle. There's also a Harris Teeter across the street from there.

If you want a great selection of really fresh meats and more upscale items, there's now a Fresh Market down the road (towards Sea Pines Circle).

Have a wonderful time! I'm so jealous that your trip is so close! :cool1:

You've the got the essentials, that should do it, except for one thing.
Every year I'm sure I pack my work stress, but somehow when I get there I can't find it :confused3

Enjoy, can't wait for our return trip in August.

To help you pack a little lighter, the resort supplies paper towels and dishwashing soap (both liquid and dishwasher). We like the sheets just fine, unless you want to bring fitted bottom sheets. It is kind of a pain tucking those flat ones in every day.

I would add extra bathing suits and water shoes/flip flops for walking on the hot sand getting down to the beach.

We pack an old t-shirt for each of us in case our shoulders get too much sun, we throw one on and can still swim. Seems to happen to at least one of us no matter how diligent we are with the sunscreen.

I also pack a bottle of vinegar. Worked great last time for DS's sunburned shoulders. I just poured some into the jacuzzi tub, filled with warm water. He said it helped a lot.

Magnetic screen for door??

Never heard of such a thing. WHat a great idea!

Where do I get one? We're leaving in the morning tomorrow. :earsboy:

Forget the Skin So Soft. You need some real, honest to goodness OFF, which works way better. It's still early in the year, so the bugs aren't too bad yet, but trust me, unless you want to be eaten up, buy some OFF.

You could run by Wal-Mart to pick up the noodles and sand toys. Some people like to buy some cheapy beach chairs and an umbrella if you plan to spend a lot of time on the beach.

Publix is a great grocery store. If your family likes chicken tenders, they sell them hot and fresh in the deli section and they are yummy.

Skin so Soft actually comes in a aerosol bug spray now. It doesn't contain DEET, and I have heard absolute raves about it. I actually bought both SSS and OFF so we're doubly prepared.

Thanks for all the helpful advice and tips. Stopped by AAA and got HH books. Hubby is currently looking for his "perfect golf course", and the kids are so excited Wednesday can't get here soon enough.

HHI or Bust!

A little late..... http://www.bugoffscreen.com/ is one company.... if you google portable screen doors lots of things come up.

We've never had a problem with bugs at HH. We've gone every year for the past 6 years.

Papertowels are plentiful. There is one on the rack and one unopened under the sink.

They have pool noodles at HH.

They also have fishing poles.
