We will be at Disney for 6 nights and although I will be taking some groceries down with us, I will still need to buy a lot of cold items when we get there. Are there any good grocery stores near Disney that are in a safe area? Any chance there is a Publix nearby?

I've used Garden Grocer two or three times, great service.

When I'm East of World Drive, I usually go to the Winn Dixie on Apopka Vineland; head out the DTD exit, and turn left (north) on 535. It will be on your right hand side. Prices are a bit higher than Publix, but I find the Publixes over on that side to be harder to get to. I'm lazy on vacation....

When I'm West of World Drive, I usually go to the Orange Lake Publix off of US-192. There is a newish Super Target over there too. You can take Sherberth road from Osceola, over by AKL, to catch 192 very close to the Publix.

For MK-area, I'm guessing the back way out to Winn Dixie is faster, but probably not by much.

I've read a lot about Goodings in Crossroads, and this is probably the most convenient to nearly anywhere on Disney property. But, I found it to be dingy, dirty, and not well-kept (water stains on the ceiling and carpet, etc.); surprising given its reputation as a pricey gourmet store. I walked in, looked around a few minutes, and walked right back out.

We like the Winn-Dixie because it's close. To combat the price issue, take a few minutes and sign up online for their Discount Card program. I keep it in my wallet and I think I get good prices that way. Plus you can check out the ad online so you can get your shopping list together.

Because we stop overnight on the way, I'll check both W-D's and Publix ads online. If our list is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper at Publix, we'll drive there to shop, but usually the small price difference isn't worth the gas and time to shop further away.

There's a Super Walmart fairly close, too, but it's HUGE. Convenient if you need more than food (like the swimming goggles you forgot!!)

I keep meaning to sign up for that card, and I keep forgetting. Sigh. "Vacation brain" strikes again.

Is this hard to find from the SSR/DTD area? thanks

Not in the least. You can either drive past the DTD hotels, turn right at 535, go under the interstate and turn left at the light. Follow the road around past Mary, Queen of Peace Shrine and the Outlet Mall. The Publix will be on your left. This way can get very busy in the evening, so take this route in the morning or early afternoon.

Or you can go left out of SSR towards OKW, follow the signs to I-4 and get on World Center Dr. Keep left to go on International Drive and turn left on Vineland Ave.

It's about 5 miles from OKW.
