DH, myself and another adult will be renting 3 minivans for one day, so that we can drive 70 youth back and forth from the DoubleTree, in small groups, to a nearby grocery store. (Sounds a bit crazy, I know, but we'll be in Orlando for 10 days and want to keep the food expenses down.) Is the Publix on Kirkman Rd. our best bet? What is the Millenia grocery store like? Any other ideas? TIA

The Publix on the corner of Kirkman and ConroyWindermere is the closest to you.

go straigt down sandlake road to the walmart super center..it the cheapest and the best,,its a 8 to10 minit drive...good roads no turns ecept into parking lot..and easy to get back from as well..lot of stores in the mall..florida malll is 10 minits farther down sandlake as well..no turns,,

Thanks for your replies! Since we have to make 4 trips back and forth to shuttle 70 people, Publix will probably work out best, due to its close proximity. I'm still a bit curious about the Millenia Grocery Store over by Mall at Millenia. Has anyone shopped there before?

Here, my web site is back up.

Publix

Bring up a site like maps.yahoo.com
Type in the address of the Double Tree, and then the Publix address.

I would go to Publix. For the past two summers we've spent a month and then three weeks in Orlando and Publix had everything we needed for our long trips. It's also really nice in there, I love the fountain and bakery!

If you want something really close, there should be a Walgreens, that has quite a bit, should be right by the DoubleTree, I know it is right by the entrance to the RP, which is all pretty close together there.

there are three Wal Marts in Universal area.

Kirkman north past Publix

Sand Lake at John Young

Turkey Lake s/of Sand Lake Rd

all about equal distance- all Super WalMart

Thanks for the great info, everyone! :)

Spidey7, do you think that the Walgreens would be within walking distance of the DoubleTree? That might be handy on the days that we don't have the rental vans.

for some reason I thought doubletree was on I-Drive but I now remember and see it is on Major at Kirkman so MetroWest is correct and the Publix and Wal Mart on Kirkman would be a much closer - driving that is.

As far as Walgreens it should be a short walk north on Kirkman on same side a short distance if not right next to your hotel.

EDIT - did a google directions and it is .4 mile walk from your hotel

Walgreens 5501 S Kirkman Rd, Orlando, FL 32819

Right and I think the Walgreens is in a little shopping center where the Orlando Ale House and Kobe are located. I've been to the store before but just can't remember for sure.

Bob, thanks for doing the Google search. Glad to hear that the Walgreen's is so close! That will be great for our group.

robvia, I appreciated the pics and directions to Publix on your website. Having never been in that area before, it's nice to see ahead of time exactly what's there and what the drive is like. (A bit off the subject, but do you know if Flippers will deliver to the DoubleTree? Their menu looks great!)
