We are going to WDW in July for the first time. We have a room at the OKW that has a full kitchen. We would like to eat breakfast and maybe some lunches in our room. However we are flying in from California. I have planned to bring a suitcase with non parishables. We would like to go to a store and buy lunch meat, milk, etc. when we get there. We are not renting a car. I understand stores on the property can be expensive. Is there a store close by but off property that we can go to? any suggestions will be helpful.

Hi,
If you are using a towncar service, they will make a 30 minute grocery stop on the way to Disney. The towncar service runs about $100 incl/tip, and in my opinion is well worth the money. If that isn't an option for you, you could always use a taxi.

We figured the cost of Mears for 3 people is $75(with the $3 p/person discount) and the cost of the towncar is $80 roundtrip plus a tip each way. We always use the towncar service.

Have fun on your trip!
:D

Will I save enough money going off property to by groceries to make it worthwhile to pay for a towncar or taxi?

I have no idea. I guess it would depend on what you plan on purchasing for groceries. If you only need a few things, I would buy them on property.

Try the DVC discussion board for inquiries on how well stocked OKW keeps it's store.

How are you getting from the airport to Disney? If there are more than two of you, the towncar is only a few dollars more and well worth the convenience.

Disney Dad Says...................................Um. How did you plan to get from the airport to WDW? If you are not renting a car, then a towncar is your best bet. For four, the price of a towncar is the same or less than Mears, and you get the 30 minute stop. Do it at a Publix, much cheaper than goodings. Use DD and your resort only for things like milk, that have a short shelf life.
