grocery shopping while at FW

The meadows trading post has a small grocery section for emergency shopping. While the prices are not totally outrageous, they are higher than local supermarkets. If possible I would suggest stopping at a local store (my favorite is the Florida chain Publix Supermarkets) on your way in as to go back out can be quite a drive. If necessary stop again if you make any side trips off Disney property. There are many other stores in the local area including Winn Dixie and Goodings (a bit high in prices). The closest Publix I have found is Publix Regency Village Shopping Center.

Driving Directions:

* Exit the Disney complex on Hotel Plaza Blvd (Lake Buena Vista) to 535, turning right on 535.
* Drive under I-4, turning left at the first light after you cross under I-4. This should be Vineland Ave.
* Continue on Vineland Ave, pass the outlet stores (nice center) and follow the signs to Publix.

This is about 5 minutes further than Goodings, but you save a bunch!

Thanks so much esp for the directions. I'm printing them off now to go in my folder...I figure the more info I have ahead of time the more time I will save while we are there. I'll have to shop the first night we're there. I'm sure I'll be tired from a day at MK but we will arrive in the morning and go straight to the park. How long is the drive over to Publix? Maybe we'll do a fast food stop and then shop.

Where's the best place to shop for food?

We just got back yesterday from FW cabins. We used Gardengrocer.com. We ordered everything we needed and the delievery was just $10. You pick the delivery time and they have thousands of products online. You can actually sit back and really think about what you need. We really loved it. Hope that helps. :goodvibes

WOW! Thanks. That may be something we might have to do...there's 6 in our family and while my kids want to eat at the parks I explained one meal at a themed restaurant would cost us close to $150 (if not more)! I can buy plenty of groceries for that.

how timely are they in their deliveries?

When you order you pick a two hour time frame. We chose 6 to 8 pm and they were there around 7pm. They call first to make sure you are ready for the delievery. We were also told that if we wanted anything else durning the course of our stay that the delievery was free. Not sure if there was a dollar amount we needed to spend but it did not sound like it. They were great and easy to work with. I will never grocery shop any other way while visitng WDW. The prices were on the normal high side. What I really liked most was that I could plan everything we needed ahead of time and we did not end up throwing much away at the end of our stay. I also liked not having to waist time grocery shopping once there. I just can't say enough good things about it.

We always go to the Winn Dixie which is close by. You exit at hotel plaza Blvd but instead of turning right you turn left. Winn Dixie is on that street (vineland-Apopka) only a mile or so down the road on the right. The store is new and very clean and has always been empty when we went. It might not be now that more people know about it. The prices are good and they had the same specials going on that we had at our home town WD with some of the prices even better. Our store here has closed but I still keep my WD card to use for discounts there.

I love the suggestions on buying groceries! thanks much. Last time we stayed at a WDW hotel and I had a cooler and 2 big boxes of stuff. I am really looking forward to having a fridge and stove  !
