I'm sure this has been posted before in some form or another, but didn't see it...so here are my questions...
My wife and I always use the Disney Dining plan when we visit and its plenty of food for the two of us. However now we are making our first trip with our new little DD who will be 7 1/2 months when we visit WDW, and we are also traveling with her parents (built in babysitters when needed). For our little one, and the grandparents, we were wondering were the nearest grocery store or gas station that has groceries, and what will be the best way to get there? We need baby food for sure, and snacks and drinks for the grandparents. I know we can pre-order groceries from our resort (AKV) but the prices are crazy. I'm thinking of just doing a taxi to save the money. Ideas? Tips?

Make it easy on yourself, and contact Amy at Wegoshop. All information can be found at www.WeGoShop.com. We use this service on every trip and have always been happy.

I second wegoshop.......love them. They deliver your groceries to you so you can spend all of your time enjoying your vacation! Have a magical visit!

I checked them out...that will be a good option, looks cheaper than doing a cab to and from a grocery store.

we have used gardengrocer 3 times now and have always been happy with the service. They will deliver your groceries and the bell stand will store them (in the fridge/freezer) until you get back to your room and then bring them up to you. I'm not sure if all of the villas have food storage at the bell stand but i know that BLT and Boardwalk do.

i have also emailed them with special requests that i didn't see on their selection list and they were more than happy to get anything we needed.

I have to say, I used wegoshop last year and had a great experience, even when substitutions were made for an item...This year, we were disappointed. The shopper substituted things, firstly when there was to be no substitutions unless I noted it, (which is an option) and substituted in a "no sense" manner (example: I asked for 2 boxes of Folgers singles (19 ct.) individual coffee bags and ended up with 2 containers of Maxwell House coffee filter packs (10 packs to each container) that makes 4-6 cups at a time!) so for the two or three of us who would only drink one cup each day, it became a waste! And this wasn't the only thing that was way off.... I don't know if it is because there was a change of management and there may be other people working as shoppers now but we won't be using them again.

Another vote for We Go Shop. I have used them in the past and just did my list for our October trip today.

Sounds like the best option so far. We looked into cab fares and the delivery rates are better.

I used Garden Grocer for our trip a few weeks ago and they were fantastic. Stayed at the Dolphin and refrigerated items were packaged separately from non-refrig items. I got a text before boarding my flight indicating the delivery had been made at bell services. I will use them again in the future without question.

I am going to give garden grocer a try this time around. I have always used Wegoshop before and was very happy with them untill the last time. The last person who delievered the groceries, not the usual person made me feel very bad for not tipping them a larger amount. I honestly was not thinking straight that day since I had just got news my dad was in the hospital with kidney problems. It was a honest mistake and just wanted them to hurry up so I could make some phone calls. I felt bad all day, never been insulted like that before from a service co.

So my wife likes the idea of going to the grocery store along with her mom after we get unpacked. Her Dad and I will relax at the hotel, and grab a drink at the pool bar...that might be the best idea yet! lol :cool1:

As a mom who travelled with a 9 1/2 month old DD last summer, I recommend using a grocery delivery service. We used wegoshop and the service was just fine.

I know that as a mom to a baby, your DW might feel like she can't trust the delivery service to handle everything just right, but wegoshop handled everything to do with the baby's items just great. I ordered diapers, wipes, formula (very specific brand and container type), baby food and a very specific sunblock (California Baby) and there were no problems at all. My sister ordered items for her toddlers and again, no worries.

I just wanted to add that bit of reassurance in case that was what was swaying your DW to do the shopping herself. I assume you're flying to Disney since you indicated you won't have a car...You're travelling with a baby and that can be tiring, even with grandparents (my mother was with us for that trip and was very helpful). There is no way I would have felt like I also wanted to go grocery shopping in a supermarket that I was unfamiliar with after we checked in and unpacked. We flew and just getting the baby through the airport and security, getting her formula and baby food through security and getting to the resort was tiring and very different from travelling alone as a couple. It was great having the groceries delivered right to the room (and even better that my sister put them in the fridge, lol - my sister got to the room before I did).

Anyway, if your DW's mind is made up it's made up, but I thought I'd offer my opinion that you should make things as easy as possible on your DW because you're travelling with an infant.

That's exactly it...she is nervous about a delivery service and thinks it might just be better to gather everything herself...she is warming up to the idea though, she has looked into "wegoshop" as our option. This is the first time we have come to WDW with a little one, so not as easy as it used to be. Thanks for the helpful advice.

Only 58 days to go and we're off on our first trip to WDW all the way from Australia.

We're staying at AKL on the Dining Plan but my kids are early risers so we'll need some breakfast in the room to ease the hunger pangs, save time and money on breakfasts.

We're going to take the towncar service from the airport so I thought we'd take up the chance to do a grocery stop. It will be late when we're arriving so I'd rather not have to stop at all.

My question is, if you were me, would you pre-order your groceries online and have them delivered or just do the grocery stop.

The tricky thing is with ordering online is that I'm not familiar with some of the products offered in America e.g. some of the cereals, and while they might be similar to what we have at home you don't know that until you actually see them.

hope this is not a stupid question.

I think Disboards is fantastic, it's answered so many of my questions and given me lots of great tips.

:rotfl:

We used Garden Grocer on our last trip and we loved it!! For our trip we had a 4 month old and a 4 year old! We will use them again any other time we travel without a car!

I am SURE that the shoppers can handle buying specific baby food selections (do you want plum, earths best, gerber, beach nut etc and what types of food/cereal) as well as diapers and snacks/drinks for your family.

We have a large family trip coming up in the fall with my parents coming as babysitters. I just gave everyone my gardengrocer account/password and asked them to go in an add their order requests.

After traveling with a 7.5 month old, I think that you should encourage your wife to relax as much as possible and not add anything else more stressful to her first day on vacation!! Plus, she will want to be part of the unpacking process for sure and your time at the pool might not be as luxurious as you think with a baby in tow! =)

Have a great trip!!
