Which is better on your food bill : Target vs Walmart

I tried coupon.com and groupon.com and only checked off 3 coupons, nothing on my grocery list was on it.
And the coupons on target very few.
So those who have shopped at either, which one saved you more.

I have the new Target Debit Card and get 5% back(not sure if it applies at check out or a refund, have not used it yet). Let me know your thoughts. TIA

I can't say much about Wal-Mart because I wrote it off years ago. Most of the Wal-Marts around here are just not worth it to me. For the few items I feel that I am getting a better price for it is not worth the poor customer service and horrendously slow checkout lines.:headache:

I do buy a lot of my grocery items at Target though. I always use my credit card and they definitely know my shopping patterns so the checkout spits out coupons that I am likely to use. I combine those with manufacturer's coupon and can often get great deals. That being said, I have not had great luck with their fresh produce. I have found it to spoil very quickly. Much quicker than when I buy produce from local farms or from Wegmans. I just try to keep this in mind when shopping at Target. If its not something I am going to eat immediately, I buy it elsewhere or know that I need to freeze it right away.

luckyfin,
Thank you for getting back to me . I'll give Target a shot. Do you know how the 5% thing works??. TIA

The 5% is taken off immediately, so it's like getting a 5% discount every time you shop.

i buy stuff at both but i generally buy the same stuff every two weeks so i know who has better prices on what and i have it worked out in such a way that i'm not driving extra to split my shopping between the 4 stores i stop at.

Walmart has lower prices most of the time and a much larger selection. You have to deal with umm...the type of people who like to shop at Walmart...but if you go early in the morning or not on paydays it isn't too bad. lol

Target occasionally has better prices on a few items but it doesn't happen too often that they beat out Walmart. And, Walmart will price match any competitor's advertised price (ie: either a print ad or an ad if you bring it up on your mobile device) so you can do most of your shopping there if you choose to.

Neither Walmart or Target have a good selection of organic items. Walmart is getting better (and in my area has more selection than Target), but both lack organic produce for the most part...so I still have to get produce elsewhere unless it's a great price for non-organic.

Our Super Target blows Wal-Mart away. The prices are very comparable to WM and often better. Target has a great organic selection and certainly saves me money over Whole Foods. The 5% off debit card keeps me out of WM. I love getting the 5% off shopping day coupons from using the pharmacy.

Exactly!!!

Mom and I do our shopping at Wal-Mart. We don't bother with organic as it's overpriced, IMO. And Wal-Mart does price match, assuming they carry that item.

It's a toss up for me. Wal-Mart generally has best prices across the board, but won't take internet coupons that won't scan (my local grocery store will type in the #s for my coupon.com coupons if needed) and my store doesn't carry products that aren't very mainstream. My family isn't overly adventurous, but I couldn't find things like quinoa, Justin's organic peanut butter, reduced sodium black beans, and other items that I was able to find at my local (small town) grocery store.

Target's prices may not be the lowest, but they are competitive. The price reduction may come in the form of gift card if you buy so many items, rather than a lower price though. I find it has a better selection than Wal-Mart, better customer service, and I like the Market Pantry & Archer Farms brands.

I shop at both each week for the best buys with coupons! I like Target best, but Walmart does have better prices on some things!

Wal-Mart is definitely cheaper here and has a better selection on most things. I was one of those people that complained like crazy about Wal-Mart, BUT continued to shop there because they are cheaper. However a few months ago after a trip that included waiting in a customer service line for over 30 minutes AND watching a huge mouse (that was NOT Mickey) practically run over my foot on my way to the dairy case, I finally said no more!

IMO, Wal-Mart gets away with crappy service and gross stores because they think most customers value price over ALL else. I finally decided, I am not going to be one of those people anymore.

Yes! Walmart drives me nuts! A few dollars is not worth my sanity, lol.

Personally I have saved more at Walmart and they have more selection of meats and produce but I save more than either at Aldi or Bottom Dollar Foods if you have them around you.

Depends on your budget and what you are shopping for and your tolerance for WM. Our Super Target has a good selection and is closer so I just tend to hit that out of convenience. I will say I've had a bad experience with WM cuts of meat so I do not buy meat products there. If I happen to be in WM, I will buy stuff. I think pricing wise WM is a bit better but again, depends on what is a driving factor for you.

Our local Wal-Mart is nice and clean so no complaints there.

As for prices, meat and produce is way overpriced at Target here plus their selection isn't great. I generally buy most staples at Wal-Mart, items such as cheese and yogurt at Target, produce at a local natural food grocery store with budget prices and shop sales for meat. I guess that I probably spend more money at Wal-Mart then Target but they both get plenty. :)

Target hands down! I do my bigger couponing there since you can stack, I love their gift card deals and because of the 5% discount with my debit card. I absolutely hate my local walmart. Every time I go there the aren't enough cashiers and they give me issues with my price matching and coupons. I would rather go to my larger chain grocery store and Target to get everything than take one step into walmart! Whew, rant over!:lmao:
