Groceries for a weekend trip?

Hi -

My 17 yr old DS and I will be flying to WDW in late April from Wednesday - Sunday. We will be staying at the Contemporary (we are not DVC). I was thinking about having Shipt, Instacart or Amazon Prime deliver a few grocery items for our room. The question is, what to have them deliver, as I don't want to go overboard and have to throw away food. It would be nice to cut costs a bit and eat in the room to TRY to get going faster in the mornings. My son (aka bottomless pit!) lives on cereal and drinks a lot of milk. Is the fridge big enough for 2 half gallons of milk? Are there microwaves in the rooms? Otherwise, Cliff bars and fruit snacks? I don't think oatmeal would go over well. I'm also a Diet Dew addict, so that would be on the list! Other suggestions?
I appreciate your thoughts and advice.
Thanks!

Have you thought about just bringing stuff with you... for a weekend trip it might be much easier.. I have packed plenty of snacks and breakfast items with us when we travel... Pretty much DH's backpack and my carry on has snacks in them... as well we have put thing in the checked bags... I always put everything in a ziploc just in case something was to open up and spill out... The mini boxes of cereal, belvita, breakfast bars, protein bars, individual pack's of chips, crackers, cookies, containers of peanuts and mixed nuts, candy - fruit snacks, gummy bears, if I bring chocolate I keep in the carry on...

Insta-cart from Publix will deliver, or you can pick up curb side...

Our friends honestly have used every delivery options that are available... and have not really been thrilled with what they have gotten... so now they always arrive really early, check the bags if the room is not available yet, then take Uber over to Wal-mart or Publix... and get whatever they need... They always buy milk at the resort -

If you are going to use uber/lyft from the airport.... you could ask the driver to stop like at a convenience store and either you or your son could run in and grab a couple of 12 pk of soda, and some bottled water... we have done this a bunch of times...and not one of them has ever said no, we always tip them in cash, and give them 5 stars...

I never used grocery delivery. It's just me that I think it's too expensive and worry about the handling (is it being stored properly or just thrown somewhere). We drive to WDW with a cooler. We always intend to stop at Walmart or Publix or wherever to pick up a few things but, to be honest, more than half the time we do not and we're always fine. I agree with previous poster...pack as much as you can or otherwise take an Uber or Lyft to a place.

I sent a box to the hotel before I got there from amazon and bought milk and water bottles in the gift shop. My boys live on cereal as well.
We ordered tuna kits , squeezable skippy peanut butter, ritz crackers, cereal , plastic cups , plastic spoons. Snack pack chex mix. And water flavor packets ( kool aid). We use to get mac and cheese cups and such but after covid they removed microwaves.

If you are flying Southwest and have all the extra baggage room, I would bring stuff. My mom and I are heading down in a couple weeks for 5 days and are going to bring a whole suitcase of stuff since we are flying Southest.

The fees on the delivery services add up fast for a small order.

Last time we were at WDW, we stayed at CBR and did a combo of bringing some snacks in my checked luggage, and also did an Amazon Prime Now delivery. I did not find it cost prohibitive and we saved a bunch of $$ by not eating out for breakfast every day, plus I packed some extra small snacks for in the parks to cut down on the amount of junk purchased in the park. I am almost positive we had free delivery with the Prime Now.

I don't remember everything but I know we brought those little Nutella with bread stick snack packs, peanut butter crackers, granola bars, and oatmeal packets (I would just run hot water through the coffee maker and then add a light splash of milk to it) in my luggage. Then for Amazon Prime Now I did a half gallon of milk, pop tarts, bananas, salami, cheese sticks, yogurts, and Trulys. I had plenty of room in the little fridge. We ate light breakfasts in the room each morning as we wanted to get to the parks as early as possible, and I would usually grab a few granola bars or the Nutella things to take into the park to prevent any of my kids from getting hangry.

Wow, that's a lot of milk for a weekend trip. I think you could fit two half-gallons into the refrigerator ... and then, if that's not enough, he can buy individual cartons from the food court. That would also dismiss your concerns about buying too much /being wasteful. Saving "some" rather than stocking up for the whole trip is better than saving nothing.

Do they still make shelf-stable milk cartons? I seem to remember getting them for lunches when my girls were small.

I do like to bring things with me -- I can buy them on sale in the weeks ahead, and I know I'll have the brands we like for the room. With two people, you should each have a little space in your suitcase.

Rather than a convenience store, I'd place a pick-up order at Walmart or another grocery store ... have your Uber driver stop at that store; would take no time, and you'd have control over what you order.

Most DVC resorts have done groceries in the gift shop. For the milk, just purchase in the gift shop. Milk (half gallon ) and bread was surprisingly reason priced. You could walk over to Bay Lake Tower for more milk if needed. The fridge in the hotel rooms are tiny, I used Amazon Prime Now without issue. I also have also used Garden Grocer many times and they were great. Yes, pricey but time is money. Plus, still cheaper than Disney by a long shot.

I haven’t had groceries delivered to a resort in many years. I know Disnew has really cut back on who/what they allow to be delivered. Please confirm that whatever service you use IS allowed to make a delivery.

you will be surprised at how little you eat from your room while at Disney. I always go overboard! I would order a case or two of water/drinks and just a half gallon of milk to start. The gift shops are pretty reasonable for milk.

Just buy milk and cereal at the contemporary gift shop. A half gallon of milk is like $3. Cereal is about the same price as the grocery store. You can buy quite a few things at the gift shop and save the hassle of delivery.
