Just arranged for our towncar to make 30 minute grocery stop. I've read on the DIS boards not to pack food items in the checked luggage (because of xrays??). What if anything should we bring along to disney and what are some ideas for grocery shopping in Orlando? I think I'm going to try to find a collapsable cooler to bring along.
Items I think I'll buy:
milk
soda
beer
bottled water
bread
peanut butter
jelly
chips
nuts
fruit snacks
cereal

Items I think I'll bring:
plastic spoons, knives, bowls and cups
snacks for plane trip only

Any advice anyone? This is our first family trip ever.

You sound like you have a good list. We always buy snacks for our hotel room. It saves a lot of money and is more convenient to have water, soda, beer and snacks in your room. We also eat breakfast in our room and the children like a bedtime snack.

We also brought water and snacks into the park.

We purchased a wheeled cooler that we use as a carry on now. It was only $15. One suggestion that works for us...we pack a lot of ziplock bags and then fill the bags with ice. It helps with the leaking.

Have a great trip.

Thanks Dimimi-
Where would I find this $15 wheeled cooler? What is it made of?

I missed the post, why no food in checked luggage?

We always eat breakfast in the room. One of our carry ons (usually a backpack) is our "food bag". We take bread, peanut butter, jelly, one bowl for each of us, a bottle for water for each of us, cereal bars, small boxed cereals, and other small snacks for the plane and room. We take Mears, so there is no stopping at the grocery store. It's worked for us in the past. We'll do it again this time. At least that will cut down on some of the food budget!!

You can pack food in your luggage, they recommend against it because some foods look suspicious on the x-rays and they will need to open your bag to hand inspect it and verify that your bag contains harmless items (some foods apparently can look like plastic explosives).

We shipped a box of food by FedEx to our resort. We included plastic knives/forks and spoons, but after we got there, we found that we could have just picked those up in the food court at the resort.

If it were me, I would not bring anything along in checked luggage. You can buy any of the grocery items you listed when you arrive. The wheeled coolers are readily available in many places.

You can make your grocery stop at the local grocery stores, like Publix, Winn Dixie, Albertson's or Wal Mart Super Center.

I just wouldn't bother lugging any food items along, since they are readily available in Orlando.
