Visiting CA for the first time in June. How does GRR compare to Kali River Rapids in Animal Kingdom?

Now, I am a person who doesn't mind getting wet, I actually find it a lot of fun.

So, as a comparison, is GRR a Splash Mountain kind of wet (ridden it 12 times in the Magic Kingdom, never got more than just a few splashes) or a Popeye & Bluto Bilge Rats (I know, I know, Universal, not Disney, keep those flames down, you'll get my point in a second) get soaked like you jumped into the river kind of wet. IMHO, and I enjoy both, so I not dissing any ride here, SM wins on the themeing, Popeye on the adventure and definitely on the wetness factor.

So, if SM is a 1 and Popeye is 10 and Kali is about an 8 (it can be a 2 or 3 or if you are lucky a 8 or a 9), where might fans of GRR put it on this scale?

Thanks, and feel free to elaborate on your choice.

To me, its in-between a soaking wet, and a few splashes. I noticed it really depends on where you sit. If you sit next to the opening of the tube, you'll get more wet then in the middle.

I'd put it at about a 8 if your'e on the edges, and a 5 if you're in the middle.

I think its comparable to Kali....maybe getting wetter depending on where you sit of course, and the season (hotter months the water runs higher increasing your chance of splash). I think its a lot more fun than Kali. It seems to be a longer ride, bigger drop, and faster rapids.

You may get soaked our you may come out dry, just depends. GRR is much better IMO than Kali. Enjoy!

I really want to take my 7yo on this ride but he's seen one similar at Silverwood and doesn't want to get wet.

I'm thinking of packing a garbage bag with head/arm cut out for this ride do you think that would help? We are going in late March so not sure how quickly he'd "dry out" :-)

As others have said, it's not nearly as wet as Popeye. I think Popeye ranks as just about the wettest ride I've ever been on. I haven't ridden Kali recently, so it's tough to compare. But Grizzily River Run is fairly wet but also much more fun than Kali.

As long as it's long enough to sit on too. My FIL tried it but still looked like he wet his pants because it didn't cover his seat. As far as drying out. If its not particularly warm, try going on it before heading back for an afternoon break at the hotel. That way he can change. And bring flip flops or sandals so his shoes don't get wet....squishy shoes are the worst!

I agree when we rode Popeye we were soaked to our undies:lmao: That is the best ride out of the 3 being discussed here, but its Universal.

Remember... Every ride in DL is better than it's WDW counterpart, with only a couple of exceptions (Tower of Terror, Splash Mt.)... ;)

I agree with 3Minnies1Mickey. It does depend on the time of year. We went in February last year and didn't hardly get wet and no one around us looked wet either. We went again in September and got soaked. My DS and I both got it really good. I was next to an opening and my DS was next to me. There is a geyser towards the end that randomly shoots up so some tubes don't even get it while others do. Well, we got it. It shot straight up and all of the water came down on my DS and I. The rest of the boat was pretty dry. If you are going in June, I am sure they will have the geyser on where they didn't have it on in February.

Yes! The geyser goes in June. I think I've seen it go off in colder months but its timed to not get the rafts.

Yes! I agree!
But I ALWAYS seem to be the one to get soaked on Grizzly, no matter where I sit I'm always the wettest one off! But it's fun! I just always wear a rain poncho for that ride now (we buy them at the dollar store back home and bring them along) and sports sandals (tired of wet socks/running shoes)!

How big exactly is the drop on this ride? I want to ride it on this trip, but I'm not fond of really big drops (e.g. I won't ride Splash Mountain or TOT).

I don't think the drops are bigger then ToT or Splash Mountain.

I won't ride those rides either for that reason, and the GRR drop doesn't frighten me.

FWIW, some other big differences between KRR and GRR that are not specific to the ride itself (from someone who has ridden both in June)

1. The SoCal weather is not nearly as humid so you dry off naturally on GRR after a few hours. At KRR you just stay wet all day. :headache:

2. GRR has free lockers where you can put you stow your phones and cameras and anything you want to keep dry.

Subbing to find out more.

DW and I are going on our first trip to DL this well as well. We've been to WDW so we were wondering the same thing. We wondering about the wetness factor. We don't mind getting wet and were wondering just how wet we would get. We love Bluto's Barge over a US.

I think I have the same problem as Echie. No matter where I sit, it seems I always land up soaked. We usually wear dri-fit clothes where we can usually be dry in an hour or so. Looking forward to reading more.

Where are the lockers? I've never seen them. I bring a plastic baggy with me because I'm so paranoid of ruining my phone from getting wet.

The lockers are behind the 15 foot tall bear and FP machines.
