I just felt like I wanted to post this.
A little rant here. I will just be up on my soapbox for a minute!
On a couple of threads here, there have been some real 'Grinches' when it comes to Christmas. And, I wanted to post a reply.
Here is the deal. If you do not celebrate Christmas, then hey, fine. If you are not Christian, then hey, fine. If, as a parent, you do not wish to buy nice things for your child, then hey, fine. Your choice. Your perogative. I have seen nobody here judging these things.
But, I just wish the Grinches out here would refrain from judging everyone else!!!! Quit calling names. (materialistic, shallow, etc....) Quit making assumptions and assuming that because I want to see my childs face light up on Christmas morning, and because I love them so much and choose to buy a few nice gifts to share the love and happiness, that does not make me a Materialistic, Shallow, non-religious, idiot who thinks that I have to 'BUY' my childs love.
That is ridiculous. And, it is so untrue.
I find it a little offensive.
You know what, as a parent, I am going to buy things for my child. My child will have a bike to ride, he will have a basketball hoop outside, etc.. etc..
The fact that I choose to make Christmas a happy and joyous and loving and wonderful occasion by gifting these things to my child is simply NOT a negative. Not at all. The angels came bearing tidings of great 'JOY'. Not somber sacrifice.
And, for those of you who are thinking that Christmas shouldn't be about 'things'. Well, you are failing to take into account that Christmas is about love. The wise men came bearing gifts!!! Christ's salvation is a "Gift" of love. All the things we do to celebrate Christmas, including 'gifts' are expressions of Christian love. It is the one day where everything else is put aside, and love and sharing are the order of the day.
I know that there are those who do not feel this way. So, hey, celebrate Christmas how you feel is right for you. Or, simply do not celebrate at all.
But, perhaps you should keep your 'judgments' to yourself.
