I just felt like I wanted to post this.

A little rant here. I will just be up on my soapbox for a minute!

On a couple of threads here, there have been some real 'Grinches' when it comes to Christmas. And, I wanted to post a reply.

Here is the deal. If you do not celebrate Christmas, then hey, fine. If you are not Christian, then hey, fine. If, as a parent, you do not wish to buy nice things for your child, then hey, fine. Your choice. Your perogative. I have seen nobody here judging these things.

But, I just wish the Grinches out here would refrain from judging everyone else!!!! Quit calling names. (materialistic, shallow, etc....) Quit making assumptions and assuming that because I want to see my childs face light up on Christmas morning, and because I love them so much and choose to buy a few nice gifts to share the love and happiness, that does not make me a Materialistic, Shallow, non-religious, idiot who thinks that I have to 'BUY' my childs love.

That is ridiculous. And, it is so untrue.
I find it a little offensive.

You know what, as a parent, I am going to buy things for my child. My child will have a bike to ride, he will have a basketball hoop outside, etc.. etc..

The fact that I choose to make Christmas a happy and joyous and loving and wonderful occasion by gifting these things to my child is simply NOT a negative. Not at all. The angels came bearing tidings of great 'JOY'. Not somber sacrifice.

And, for those of you who are thinking that Christmas shouldn't be about 'things'. Well, you are failing to take into account that Christmas is about love. The wise men came bearing gifts!!! Christ's salvation is a "Gift" of love. All the things we do to celebrate Christmas, including 'gifts' are expressions of Christian love. It is the one day where everything else is put aside, and love and sharing are the order of the day.

I know that there are those who do not feel this way. So, hey, celebrate Christmas how you feel is right for you. Or, simply do not celebrate at all.

But, perhaps you should keep your 'judgments' to yourself.

Yikes.

Wow, I haven't seen any of this kind of stuff on here.

Not everyone has the same Christmas or other Holiday beliefs as everyone else, and we all have to remember and respect that.

I haven't read any posts that say the things you are accusing them of.

The only name calling and judging I've come across was right here in this very thread. Perhaps the OP should take their own advice and stop judging the "Grinches."

I know what youare saying OP. I have seen the comments too. Don't know how anyone could miss them if you have been reading any of the gift and Christmas related threads. I wouldn't say there were a lot but there have def been posts about materialism and Christmas and what the holiday is "really" about.

I agree that it is about different things for different people. For me, it is about the birth of Christ and I still give my kids presents too.

I have not seen any that you spoke of (have not been on here much of late), though do agree with the essence and thoughts you put forth. Merry Christmas. :goodvibes

I agree. I've seen lots of people comparing notes and giving reasons for their choices without calling people who feel differently than them names - like grinches. The insinuations made by the OP about people who celebrate differently than her were very judgemental.

I have seen some posts where people talk about their own choice of trying to downplay the material part of Christmas - that is not the same as calling someone materialistic if they choose to do differently.

I think the idea of just giving 3 gifts is very sweet and ties in with the Christian idea of three wise men and three gifts, but I can never stick to that rule. It's nice to read about, though. I like reading about other families' traditions, whether they include lots of gifts or few. Well, I'd rather read about the ones who don't go overboard, to be honest.
