Hi...I'm wondering if any of you know how flexible the restaurants are with regard to the kids' menus...will they make my picky eater a grilled cheese if it's not on the kids menu? Thanks! :thumbsup2

Im not sure but I thought I read that Ohana or Kona can do this. I dont see where it will be a big problem at any TS but I would always just ask.

If you go to Earl of Sandwich they make a nice grilled cheese over there.

will they make my picky eater a grilled cheese if it's not on the kids menu?

1) Is that with or without the plastic wrapper from the Kraft Single Slices?
2) But, seriously, call it "sometimes".
3) It simply depends upon the eatery and their flexibility.
. . . at CS, highly doubt it as they usually don't have bread or the time
. . . at TS, probably 50/50

At CS you will more than likely be out of luck and at TS it really will depend on the server and kitchen. We were very fortunate that when we went and the youngest was between 2-3 yrs. old he was on a grilled cheese diet. We'd ask when we ordered and all of the restaurants were able to make us one. At Sci-Fi it was a double-decker grilled cheese and DS absolutely loved it! Never hurts to ask and with it being such a simple food item I'm sure most will make it.

Some TS are equipped to make a "kid grilled cheese" others can make a grilled cheese but it will not be american cheese or white bread. When my kids were small they loved grilled cheese and we did ask in most TS restaurants when we ordered. Most were unable to do a "kid grilled cheese". Now if they are not picky about kind of cheese or bread you will have more luck, we did have some CS who used a hamburger bun and melted the cheese in between the buns.

The Plaza makes a wonderful "kid grilled cheese" and even though my children's diet is much more sophisticated (so don't give up hope) they still love the grilled cheese at The Plaza.

Just thinking back to our last trip, we had them made for us at Sci-Fi and the Pop Century food court. I have found most of the restaurants to be very accomodating. Good luck!

Ohana made one for my daughter even though it wasn't on the menu. She was also allowed to nibble on the other things that were brought to the table.

Thanks guys! I appreciate all the tips. Yah this kid is the world's pickiest eater!!! :wave2:

lol, i read this and all i can think of was the time i tried to order a grilled cheese at cosmic rays/ mickey's starlight cafe a few years ago. they brought me a hamburger bun, opened up with a slice of unmelted american cheese on each half. i looked at it and could not believe it , so i asked the manager and he told me that this is their grilled cheese. my dh and i still laugh about it, but this was the worst example of grilled cheese we have ever seen. ps, i didn't eat it.

I learned on my recent trip that most restaurants have a few more kid's dishes that aren't listed on the menu, you just have to ask.

1) Unless a medical condition, maybe picky eaters
. . . should be given a choice of food items
. . . if they elect not to eat, they can sit and drink milk or water
. . . it is solely their choice
. . . eventually hunger will overtake pickiness
2) Sometimes catering to picky eaters is not the best choice.

Whispering Canyon, The Wave, and ESPN all made grilled cheeses for my son...my son said WC's was the best of the 3

No flames from me! I totally agree. Our DDs can eat what's for dinner or not eat. The choice is theirs. If they don't eat dinner, I remind them that it's a long time until breakfast. (There are no snacks on the evenings they choose not to eat. If they eat dinner, they can have a snack later in the evening.)

Our nephews refused to eat anything but peanut butter sandwiches when they were 3 & 5. The pediatrician told my SIL not to buy any more peanut butter & to throw away what they had at home, that they would eat something else when they got hungry. After a 2 day "hunger strike" that left my poor SIL in tears, the boys decided they were hungry enough to eat something else. At 22 & 20, they still aren't adventurous eaters but like more than just peanut butter.

lol no need for a flameproof suit- the whole reason for these threads is to allow people to express their opinions!

I'm nodding- yes there is definitely a need to encourage my son to diversify his palate; but on vacation at Disney World, I'd like him to have the best experience possible- we have 358 days a year to work all that out- for these 7, I'm hoping to keep things on the comfortable side.

I think you need to prepare your child in that it isn't on the menu and they may only get grilled cheese a few times out of the whole vacation. Some places have more ingredients and flexibility like O'hana and Kona frequently will do it because they carry grilled cheese at the qs they apparently can share the ingredients. Other places don't even have access to bread and american cheese in particular-- if they are fussy I presume they won't want cheddar? Have you considered doing a grocery stop or order for the uncrustables frozen grilled cheese. They aren't very good but might do in a pinch. The park QS places are very inflexible because they don't have extra ingredients on hand while resort QS places often have bread for toast and it just depends on if they have the time and inclination to make it.

Tony's did is for my DD. She was supper fussy and woudlnt order the spaghetti or chicken fingers.. She asked for bread and butter, they waiter asked you don't want anything else .. she answered with grill cheese.. and made the night much better.

I wouldn't plan my rest choices around it. .. But i think most TS will.
