Griffith observatory closed?

I just wanted to confirm with someone who knows that the observatory is completely closed. I was really interested in going to this....I would be very sad if it was closed for the summer.

The Griffith Park Observatory has been closed since 2000 or 2002 (I forget) for a complete seismic refurbishment. It was supposed to be opened in 2005, but it looks like they won't be reopening it until 2006.

several of the bus tours claim to be able to go here. Is that false advertising? Do they have a special deal? Or are they just going to the grounds but not actually going into the observatory? In other words, a way to get that panoramic view?

That's how I would take it -- you can get a nice view of LA on non-smoggy days, close-up of the Hollywood sign, etc., plus you would pass the Greek amphitheater on the way up there.
