I've been highlighting my hair for decades. I was very, very blonde as a small child, but that did not last until adulthood.

My father's side of the family does not get grey hair. My dad is 85 and has about 10 grey hairs. Same was true for his mother, 2 sisters and brother.

For a variety of reasons I have not highlighted my hair in about six months. Part of the reason that it has grown out so easily is that I am finally starting to get a little grey.

I told my sister that I was going to let it go natural. Being my sister - who knows me oh too well she summed it up:

"You are turning 60, you are going to a high school reunion and a college homecoming weekend, you are just letting it grow out to show off that you hardly have any grey."

She's right - I'm busted.

58, no grey, all natural color and curl. I am blessed.

That's just not fair!!!! I had really dark hair growing up but I started turning gray in my mid-twenties! I've been coloring my hair since about mid-thirties. Now, I have to color my hair every 4 weeks. My best friend has natural blonde hair and she highlights her hair twice a year. She's 48 and as far as I know, she's never had a gray hair.

Not fair, I tell ya....not fair at all!!! ;)

I wish I had hair thatt I didn't have to color. The gray is just horrible.

Arminnie, I am so jealous of you... ;) Enjoy yourself at your reunion! :thumbsup2

Geesh, I'm not speaking to you! :) I'm just green with envy....

Turning 50, brown hair, not much gray, but EVERY BIT of my gray shows against my dark hair...that is, it would if I didn't color it! :sunny:

I just took DS (15) to get his haircut today (buzz cut-it had grown out about an inch long) and the stylist yells, "you have a premature grey spot!" She called me over and sure enough on the front of the top of his head was a spot about the size of a pencil eraser a spot of grey hair. DS's hair is a light brown/dirty dishwater blonde. I couldn't believe it. But I remembered that my sister started to grey while she was in high school and so did my mom. I still have very little grey, just around my hairline and I am 42. DS thinks it's funny. :rotfl:

My dad actually looks kind of strange in some pictures because he has a little grey at the sideburns now but not on top of his head. It can look like he has a black wig on top of his head in a picture.:sunny:
