Green Shopping Bags -- Settle an argument for me

Is it proper to use a K-Mart bag in Food Lion?

  • I have bags with store names on them, but I'll take them into whatever store I'm shopping at.

  • I have bags for each stores I shop at. You can't take K-Mart bags into Food Lion.

  • I have generic bags without a store name on them. I'm all set.

  • Plastic, please.

  • Other.

I have bags from several different stores and use them wherever I shop. I can't be bothered to have one for each store. But then I also can't be bothered having 15 different stupid "rewards" cards.

DH and I argue about this all the time. I have Wegmans and Trader Joe's bags. He refuses to use them in Giant, for example. It drives me crazy! I don't know why I bothered spending the money on the bags when he won't use them wherever he is. It bugs me to no end.

My husband is the same way and I don't get it. I'm almost positive the cashier ringing you up couldn't care less what's written on your bags.

I have all Publix bags. I take them to WalMart when I remember. I also use them at Trader Joe's when I get up to Atlanta. The WalMart cashiers remark all the time that they like the Publix ones better because they have a hard bottom unlike the ones WalMart sells for the same price!

I buy the green bags but I don't really use them for shopping. I use them when I go to the beach or when I go to the library. Our library sells books for dirt cheap so I buy a bunch and carry them in with the bags. The only real time i have used the bags for my groceries is when the platic pags accidently rip and I have to use the green bags.

When I remember to bring my bag, I have no problem with using bags from another store. I have a really nice canvas one from Banana Republic that is incredibly sturdy. I tend to use that one when I remember.

I picked other because there always has to be an "other."

I have designed-for-me carrier bags for my groceries. I happen to have the COOLEST friend who sews and made me a few cotton bags with (neat handles, too) that are really huge and fit a lot of stuff in them and are lined in case of spills. They are also easily machine-washable, too.

They have this neat Asian-inspired graphic design on them and I love them.

Much, much better than plain or your usual green bag by far!

actually, I............. went with other cause I'll use whatever. Sometimes I need plastic, they're great for getting the poopy diapers out of the house. I use my HEB ones at HEB and at the beach. I have a bank one I'll use anywhere. My MIL is getting me some that I'll have embroidered. And whenever possible, I use no bag, for places like home depot.

I picked other too. I have bags that I bought at WDW and then I also have a couple of bags that I had made.

It seems like they are hardly used around here......I brought my bags into Albertsons one day and they put all my stuff in plastic bags and then put them in the reuseable bags :confused3 Oh well, I use the plastic bags for trash can liners

I have several with no store name on them. But, I'm fine taking whatever I happen to have with me into a store - different store name or not.

I have a conglomeration of reusables...WalMart, generic, Disney, Penney, and some 'hand-crafted'. The trick to using them is to keep them in the car. That way, if I make an unscheduled stop or whatever, I'm ready!

And for the record, I Hate Plastic Bags!!

Oh, and to answer the original ? Doesn't matter which bag goes in which stores.

My Lowes Foods gives extra Greenpoints for every bag you use. It's really such an easy thing to do.:lovestruc

lol...we need a recycling smiley!

Interesting observation. Around here, I feel like I see more and more people using them each time I'm at the store.

Here too- you don't see to many people using plastic bags anymore! Especially with the shopping cart scanners now, you put your bags in the shopping cart, as you shop you scan the item and pack it in the bag-nice and easy, no need to unload the cart at the end! I can easily seperate the food into bags depending on where in the house it goes- frozen all together, downstairs pantry in one bag- makes unpacking at home SO easy!

I have bags from a bunch of stores, banks etc- I use them all at the food store, who cares what they say on them! As long as they ring up my discount per bag for each one I am using I don't care what they say on them LOL!!!

I have bags with the store name on them, but I'll take them anywhere. The store was giving out the bags a couple of years back every time you spent like $100 on an order, you got a free bag. I have about 5 or 6 of them, plus a couple of the insulated ones.

When I remember to take bags with me (trying harder, now that my favorite store is out of my favorite bag), I'll just grab whatever I've got.

I'll only use my Publix bags in Publix, but I'll use my Disney Store bags anywhere. Yesterday they went to the health food store, the mall, and Target with us. I get compliments on them frequently. :goodvibes

The vast majoroty of my bags are not brand, but I have no problem bringing my Gap/project RED bag into any store, nor my Hello Kitty MAC bag.

most of mine do not have a store name on them, but one or two do.

I take them wherever and had never really thought of it, but it seems to me:

-I don't think anyone really thinks people shop at one store exclusively
-for the most part only the cashier really notices, and I doubt they care
-the stores put their names on the bags for advertising - the more you use them then the more it benefits them

:wizard:

Mine don't have any store names on them instead they have a business name and I have one for the Celtics :thumbsup2

I've never heard of that! What a wonderful idea. How long have you had this option? That isn't going to hit my neck of the woods any time soon though.

Back to the original question, I voted to use the bags from the same store only. but that is just because I'm not sure if the store would have a problem if the bags are from the competition. They likely wouldn't but I'm too chicken to try it.

I have a few, I bought them at Trader Joe's but that is the only place I see people using them. NEVER at Target or Walmart and hardly ever at Shoprite or Pathmark.

Sometimes at Whole Foods too, but other than that I think more people, buy them but they forget them at home ( like myself )

I leave them in the car but forget them in there too!
