Am I wrong in my way of thinking about our Green Mickey Heads ?? I always felt that the Green Head was posted by Diser's (fiends) who wanted to MEET and or ASSOCIATE with other Diser's (fiends) while at the Fort ?? Otherwise, what would be the purpose of hanging green Mickeys where everyone can see them ?
It seems to have gottn to the point that EVERYONE hangs a green Mickey just because they are at the Fort ?? Well, we know you are at the Fort (who ever you are) or you wouldn't be set up onna campsite !
I guess my point is, if you have no desire or want to meet other Diser's, why hang a green Mickey ?? Because I'm here to tell you, if I see a green Mickey, I will hunt you out to meet you,,,and I gotta say there has been a couple folk who with green Mickeys who had no intentions or desires on meet'n other Diser's,,
wasn't the idea behind all this is be be able to identify other fiends ?

I'm not posting one, so hopefully you won't find me. :lmao:

Yeah, on my last couple trips I had green mickey ears in my front window. But usually only met DISers that KNEW I was there and were able to find me, that I seeked out and tracked down, or that we had set up a meeting ahead of time. My ears just aren't big enough!!

So, if I ever get back to the Fort (pretty sure I will at some point!), I need BIG mickey ears posted outside somewhere so folks can't miss them.

So I guess, in a round about way Frank, I'm saying I agree with you. The whole reason I put out the ears is to meet folks. If I wanted to stay anonymous I wouldn't display ears, I wouldn't tell folks when I was gonna be at the Fort, and I might not even post on here. Guess anonymous doesn't suit me too well!

Frank,

I am right here with you on this. There seems to be two factions here on the DIS, those that want to meet and greet each other and be actual campers, and those who want to jaw on this board, boost their ego and then go out of their way to ignore people while they are at the Fort. The latter of the two mentioned peeps will hang their mickey ears in pride, make sure they are not there, or actually refuse to answer the door (or in one case I have found, be rude as utter hell) so as not to be social.

Now, I understand that not everyone is as outgoing as I am, however, if you want to meet people and be social, that was the whole point of the green mickey head idea in the first place. This is the reason we all came up with it, to MEET people. It seems that the green mickey head has lost that purpose with so many on this board. Most of us who go out of our way to meet and greet people are now in the "click" so to speak and looked down on by others. To those who think that, fine, I really don't care. I have found my friends here on the boards and I go camping with them quite often and LOVE it. As you can see, most real fiends will also go camping outside the fort and make other gatherings and think nothing of it.

I guess what burns my hide more than anything is those who post, "I had my ears out and I just didn't see anybody," or "I went looking and did see ears but didn't meet anybody." Honey, you didn't try. Every single time I have gone, I have met someone new, if I wanted to. I think we should have a different color mickey for those who would like to say they are on the boards, but are either just too shy or are not in the social mood to meet people, maybe like purple or something. That way, no one will come a-knockin' at your door when you have your sign out so you can be a rude son of a $^^#& in front of my son or I have to waste my time trying to hunt you down. I can see the purple and say, "Oh, there is so-and-so, cool.", and just drive on by in my cart, no hard feelings.

The other thing that is starting to bother me is the stalkers. Yes, Martha, there are stalkers on this here board and I don't mean Donnie. Donnie will actually talk to you for quite a while in person. Others will drive by your site over and over and over and over and over and over and over again and watch all the goings on and never stop. This has happened to our group over the years with over 5 different DIS'ers on this very board. I have no idea why, but the fascination with driving by peoples' sites and staring at them, then driving past just dumbfounds me. Stop, say hi, have a beer, don't make me think you need mental help.

Look, I know I am starting a flame war here and I don't care. This has needed to come out for a while and I have made my feelings known to some at the fort already. If I have offended you, sorry, please deal with it. Frank is right and I fully agree with him. The mickey heads were meant as a meet and greet tool, not something to just put up that you are on the DIS. If you didn't want to be found, why did you put it there in the first place?

If I had the Mickey Green Ears, I would be happy to meet other Diser's!! :) And I know that my DH would agree as well. We are campers and like to meet other campers. And for me, I was just very happy to have met AuburnJen and LornaDuck on our last trip to the Fort! I did seek you guys out and found you! Next time, we will chat longer! But if I had the green ears we would definatley hang them with pride to meet other Diser's, whether we've met online or not! Isn't that the whole point?? And if those out there don't want to be found, then simply don't display your green ears!! So, how can I get my ears?? :)

As Frank once said there are Fiends and not Fiends. I happen to be a Fiend and proud of it. I hang my ears proud and want to meet up with as many Diser's a possible. I have made many good Friends from this board and hope to make many more, we have great times together, we are there for each other, isn't that what friendship is all about????
If you don't want to meet us as Jen said don't put your ears up or put a different color so we know not to bother you. I am one of the lucky ones that gets to go to the FT. often and I am always looking for green ears. Please do come and meet me since I now have a big Green Ears and usually my green thongs hanging from a clothline.
And if you don't want to come join in on the fun, you are missing out.
IMHO

I have an idea.

green equals yes I'm a diser please feel free to stalk me.

blue equals yes I'm a diser but don't want to meet other disers.

red equals yes I'm a diser and I don't want to meet up but I will stalk you at a gg.

pink equals yes I'm a former diser who doesn't like virtual meetings and you're a fat moran.

that should solve this dilemma.

Although we don't get to the fort NEARLY enough, we've posted our Mickey ears each time. I LOVE meeting everyone, and I agree, why show the ears if you don't want to meet fellow DIS'ers? Doesn't make sense to me, but I'm just simple like that.
However, I believe ILO (you know, my friend "cupcake"), hanging said ears is only for us po' campers who don't have enough change to use the dryers (so we hang all our unmentionables on a clothesline hung between two poor helpless trees). ;)

That's a great idea, but then you'd have someone hang a tie-dyed with all of these colors one and I'd be confused as h-e-double hockey sticks whether or not to stop and meet them! :confused3

You talkin' to me? ARE YOU TALKIN' TO ME!? :lmao:

Just kidding! I posted that I saw a few ears but didn't meet the DisBoarders that went with the ears.

But, it wasn't for a lack of effort.

We nearly burned the tires off the golf cart looping and looking for ears and we even left notes.

One fellow fiend found me (after a note exchange) by knocking on the door, but I'm the friendly sort, so I came right out and had a chat. Even went back by his site hoping to meet his wife and other child, but they weren't there.

I met another by repeatedly driving by until I saw signs of life and started yelling to them from the golf cart. Got out and had another great chat. The DH's and my DS7 even got in on the convo.

I met yet another by chance as I was coming out of the Meadows Trading Post. He was wearing a white hat with lime green ears on the front. Being the friendly sort, I immediately approached and introduced myself. Even got to meet his DW and DD as they came out of the TP.

I tried to meet one in the cabins, but just found out that her ears kept falling out of the window. She only had a GC for 1 day and did have ears displayed on the cart. Oh well, at least she tried.

If ever you see my ears at the Fort...PLEASE introduce yourself. Don't stalk me as Jen said, just walk right up and say Hi. (I actually think I had a stalker.) Not very cool. Even If you're a lurker I'd rather you introduce yourself as such. I met a lovely lurker at the beach this year and we're now friends on FB. You never know when and where you could make a new friend. So don't be shy!

If I see any of your ears i will yell at you from the street, hunt you, leave you a note, but beyond that what can i do? I am hoping next years hunt for Fiends is more productive. Although this is not to slight the ones I did meet! I was thrilled to meet all 3 of you! ;)

I agree with everyone, a lot of time and effort is spent searching out fellow fiends, so if you don't want to be met don't display the LG ears. If you're not going to display the colors or some sort of sign don't post your dates so we don't spend valuable Fort time looking for you. We'll never find you anyway. Luckily I was never treated rudely as some have said, I guess I was just ignored. :rolleyes1

If someone did that, they would have to be met for going through all that trouble!:rotfl2:

I caught one such stalker on camera. I shall remain silent.

I also think there is another kind of DISer that while they hang their ears and are happy to meet other DISers that stop by their site while they are home, they don't actively look around the Fort to find other DISers, and they don't spend a lot of time AT their campsite for DISers to find them.

On some of my trips I am that way. My annual December trip for example. There are four days during that trip that I'm at the parks from can to can't and don't have an opportunity to hang with DISers.

Some of us also have spouses that "don't quite get it" so we have to do what they want "sometimes"

When we get back down to the Fort, I'll be hanging mine up and waiting for knocks at the door!

Because I'm here to tell you, if I see a green Mickey, I will hunt you out to meet you,,,UOTE]

I am here to tell you if you get the honor of having Frank "hunt you down". It will be one of the best meetings of your life. You couldn't ask to meet a nicer guy.

I totally agree with you. If you don't want me to stop you and say Hi, don't put your sign out. That is half the fun of being at the Fort. Finding other disers to finally put a face with and meet in person. I too, have had people look at me like, what the heck do you want. Sorry, but if you have the sign out, I am gonna stop.

If you can't find me, I'm doing my part.
The big ears are fake, Photoshoped. The smaller ones in the windshield are the real ones. And I do wear them when I'm working. I also ask when I pick up at, or for the Fort, if there are any Fiends on board. I've met a few that way. But the chances are slim.
During my last stay, there were a ton of Fiends, but only one was able to catch me at the site, TCD. I just happened to be looking out the windshiled as he was driving by.
I did manage to stalk, scratch that word, meet up with a few Fiends. As I don't use a golf cart, I only loop by bike, so I don't do that much stalking anyway.
A big part of the problem is being at the same place at the same time. But if you have green ears anywhere on your site, I'm stopping. If you go by my site, bang on the door. I'm sure I'm not doing anything of any importance anyway. If I'm not there leave a $5 bill with your site number on it.

I'm here to tell ya that I hang my sign with pride at my site and if your going by I almost expect you to stop by and say HEY. Whether it's from the road or standing at my door I will smile and respond. I never gave it a thought that there would be people who would go through the trouble of making ears and setting them up and then not wanting to interact with others who do the same.(maybe I am just nutz)

If you come by my site you will get conversation and an offer of beverage and I will even feed you if it's that time of day. We have met several Dis'ers at the fort along with some at other places other than the fort and I wouldn't trade the time I've spent with these people for anything, even the ones that steal or move my sign.

In case you didn't get the jist of my post (I know I write poorly) I am agreeing with Frank and everyone else who thinks that if you display a sign expect me to drop by and at least say HEY!
