. . .and it was mehhh. Overly long with a meandering storyline, it wasn't an awful movie, but it is a far cry from other, better, superhero films. As for the 3D, this flick is proof that patrons are being gouged for extra money for effects that simply don't amaze. If you have to see the movie on the big screen, I'd highly recommend going to a matinee viewing and making it a 2D if such is available.

thanks this was high on our "to see" list. I think it just got added to the rainy day things to do list. :thumbsup2

A couple of comic friends have seen it, and they said it was pretty good. One did say, however, that a good reason to go see it in the theater was to remind the powers that be that DC has heroes other than Batman and Superman. (His theory being that, if GL did well enough, they would green light other DC projects.)

Haven't seen it yet (or Thor, to my geeky shame), but I do intend to do so.

I thought the same. It was ok but story line took waaay to long to kick in with some action. I never do 3-D

I have never been a comic book kind of girl. I do love the Iron Man movies, liked "Thor" ok, never got into the "Batman" series. I really liked the "Green Lantern".

And, on the shallow side, Ryan Reynolds is super hot. So ladies, go see it with your men, trust me! :lovestruc

i enjoyed it. i hated Blake Lively but what can yuo do? i thought she could not act at all and showing emotions? no way.

but Ryan Renolds was a great GL. i picture him more as Flash but i'll take what i can get. And Mark Strong as Sinestro? awesome

I enjoyed Green Lantern. I thought I would get distracted by too much CGI, but I think it was really well done and didn't take me out of the story at all (once I got past my initial giggle of the costume). In my book, X-Men: First Class > Green Lantern > Thor.

I plan on seeing this movie over the weekend. I enjoy superhero movies:thumbsup2

I saw it and enjoyed it, but I'm an old comic book reader and often don't see the general movie goer's perspective. I know it suffered poor reviews and opened weak, and I wonder why when it didn't seem all that different from Thor to me (in terms of suspend-your-disbelief silliness and story quality). I think the public just burned out on so many super hero movies this summer (good luck, Captain America!).

I didn't see the new X-Men movie, I got sick of the heavy handed political message that always overwhelmed the series.

Oh, yeah, I forgot that part. Admittedly, RR is nice looking and ripped, so that was a bonus for my DSO ("Oh, hey, we could go see GL today. . .I mean, there IS Ryan Reynolds to look at!") ;) He was fine (though I had an issue with his hair which I'm quite certain he is rapidly losing), and I thought Blake Lively was fine in a limited role. My main issues were the meandering plot line (which is why I liked Thor slightly better--the story was stronger if only a bit) and the disappointing :3dglasses effects. Again, not awful but not in the top tier of superhero movies, either.

We saw it this weekend and enjoyed it, although not as much as we enjoyed Thor. I completely agree with you, OP, that it was not worth the extra money for the 3D effects on this one. Glad we offset that cost a bit by seeing the matinee.

We just took the kiddo for his birthday. His review is that it was "AWESOME!" :lmao:

I think Thor was more comic book campy, didn't take itself too seriously. Green Lantern was just boring. I also did not care for Blake Lively. I think I had higher expectations, the previews looked so good.

We saw it in 3D and it was just horrible, it looked like they dragged the film through mud.

I am having second thoughts about Captain America, if it gets bad reviews we might skip it.

We both liked X-Men but our favorite movie was Super 8.

I haven't seen this one yet but most people I know who have seen it say that it is just OK. I have seen X-Men and it was pretty good and Thor which I loved! I'll probably wait to see Green Lantern on video because I really want to see Captain America and I'm afraid of getting superhero burn out.

How can one argue with that enthusiasm? :lmao::thumbsup2 I would have enjoyed GL a little more if RR's character (Hal Jordan for those keeping score) had been a little more of what he is called at one point in the movie--brash and impertinent. Instead, we got cute and sophomoric. Yeah, yeah he's quite photogenic, blah, blah, blah. . .;)

I saw Green Lantern over the weekend and I fell asleep about halfway through. And I love superhero movies. I really liked Thor. I want to see Captain America.

Green Lantern meandered. I never got vested in the plot. I didn't really care what happened. I never felt that the cast "clicked."

Plus, I kept having flashes to other movies - like Top Gun and Apollo 13.

Going to see Transformers next weekend and have high hopes for that one.

Completely agree about the cast not clicking. Nor did I feel attached to the other Green Lanterns or the ancient ones. A basic tenet of effective storytelling is that the audience must have a vested interest of some sort, a connection, that helps drive the story. It just wasn't there.
