I work in the purse area of the store and you would not believe all the young men that come in to look at the Coach purses. What's awful is the look on their faces when they see how much they cost. :scared1:
The usually story is the girlfriend has told them that they ONLY thing they want for Christmas is a Coach purse. So they dutifully come out and face the crowds to get sticker shock. Some are ok about it, with just disbelief, others are downright angry at the girlfriend for asking for one.
Either way, they leave either shaking their heads or cussing. I'm not sure who to feel sorry for, either the guy, or the girl when he sees her next.
I try to diffuse it somewhat and all though they appreciate my effort, they don't buy it.

I just don't get how people can be so greedy. If you know he can't afford it, or doesn't spend money like that, why would you ask for it and then tell him, that's the only thing you would accept?!

LOL, Serena!

My sister happens to be a big Coach fan, but she buys her own! She was robbed of three last year and replaced them from eBay! She was amazed at the deals she got there!

So the next time the guys shake their heads, check the dust in their pockets and start to leave empty handed, tell them to check eBay! :p

Hey thanks Robin, I will. You would have really liked this soldier boy that came in all decked out in uniform. He had his hat in hand and he was very polite and respectful, until he heard the price. Then he loudly said, "She's out of her mind!" and walked off in a huff. ::yes::

If I were a fella - and the girl I was dating said the only thing she would accept for Christmas was a Coach purse, guess what she would get?

Nothing !!!!!!

Not only is it greedy - but it's ignorant and in very poor taste as well..

Good for the soldier boy!!!!!!!! :)

If all she wanted was Coach and I couldn't afford it I would tell her Too Bad!

I got my $190 Coach at Marshall's for $49.99. :)

Oh yeah - I can just see one of these chicks accepting a purse that came from eBay .... NOT.. The guy would have to have a death wish to try to pull that off....

Believe - someone who is that selfish and demanding would go right through the roof if they found out their precious Coach purse came from eBay...

LOL! I was just at the store tonight looking for a new purse to replace my worn-out one, and I had sticker shock looking at the Coach purses!

If those women actually said the only thing they wanted was a Coach purse, knowing their SO couldn't/didn't like to spend so much money, that's pretty awful.

I'd like to think that maybe in a couple of the cases the boyfriend DID plan to spend that much money on a gift, but he just couldn't bring himself to spend that much on a little purse. I know my DH would feel that way!

At any rate, your story is a good reminder about how we need to focus on the true meaning of the season rather than on what we expect to find under the Christmas tree!

I feel sorry for the guys. Maybe we should feel sorry for the girls for valuing a BAG (status symbol) so highly.

I'm sorry, but I am sooooooooo turned off by these designer bags and the image they convey. Honestly, if I received one for Christmas, I would feel bad, because I'd be too ashamed to carry it. Funny thing is, the few people I know who have them are always having money problems.

Gee - and I wonder why that is? LOL I've bought decent used cars for what some people spend on a purse..

I got a Coach purse from soon to be ex DH last xmas. I honestly hated it, thought it was so ugly and returned it. He bought my mom and my aunt Coach wallets and I thought those were ugly too. I guess I'm weird LOL.

I really want a Burberry bag though (found a knock off, but it's just not the same) or a Dooney & Bourke one, which is a little more reasonable than the Burberry (about a $200 difference). Too bad I don't have a boyfriend or husband to buy me one, so maybe I'll splurge and get myself a nice xmas present this year :)

I'm sorry, but I'm :rotfl: here at your description of the guys' reactions. :rotfl: :rotfl:

Edited to add~ I asked DH to read this thread... His first question was, "What's a Coach purse and how much do they cost?":teeth: :teeth:

I love Coach purses and accessories. And by love, I mean I love LOOKING at them. I'm a big pocketbook person but I could not bring myself to pay that much for 1 purse.

So last month I typed Coach into EBAY search and came up with a whole list of options. So I bid and I WON! Paid much less and I love my new wristlet!

LOL A Coach purse was the last thing I bought myself before I got married. Now of course with kids it is much too small.

If you see solider boy again tell him to go to the exchange (or PX for army folks) They sell coach purses there for less and no tax.

When I was in my early 20's I used to buy Coach bags when I worked in NYC in retail. I still have a bunch of those little bitty purses and one big one. They still look like brand new. Now that I'm 42 I've been carrying the same black L.L. Bean healthy back bag for 4 years. I get so many compliments on it, it wears like iron. I did buy myself a new leather backpack bag for Christmas at Kohl's for $15. I would never spend what they are charging for Coach now, it's just not important to me anymore. I would also have never told DH to get one for me when we were dating. Those girls need a reality check. E-Bay is a great idea. My DH bought me a knock off in New Hope,PA once at a little store where a guy made leather purses to look just like Coach. You never could've told the difference. I guess I'm not into labels any more, I shop anywhere there is a good sale. Last week I got a pair of Gloria Vanderbilt low rider stretch jeans at Kohl's for 90 cents! The best part is I have to tell everyone I see that they cost 90 CENTS. My kids get so embarrassed.

I got a kick out of this post. For my 30th birthday I bought my self a Coach bag. I was scared to death what my husband was going to say when I told him how much it cost.

I had this long speech planed out on how turing 30 and waiting all these years for a great bag and how I was worth it.

Now a little history. My husband at the time worked for the company that tanned Coach Leather, In fact my husband was the person who probley did the tanning of my bag.

So here I am standing in front of him ready to tell my long sob story and he gets right to the punch line "How much was it" I tell him $230.00 and he says " THATS ALL" I was shocked to say the least.

Well DH went on and on about how Coach wont let anyone but this company my DH worked at process their leather because they wanted the BEST PRODUCT, DH said that the tanning process was one of the most expensive used, even though Coach could use a much less costly process they wanted ONLY THE BEST !!

When I asked him why he never told me this before he said " I didnt know you liked nice bags, all you ever carry is JUNK" well DUH I cant affored Coach LOL.

A few years ago Coach even had a picture of my hubby at work showing how they tan leather,

My hubbys nolage of leather was really cool when we went looking for leather furniture, We did not need a sales person to lie to us on the quality of the leather,

I have a funny story about Coach purses. When I acheived my 5 year service anniversary at work, there was a Coach bah in the gift brouchere (sp?) Needing a new purse, I decide I will let the company pick this one up for me. I wait patiently for about 8 weeks for me purse to come in. This is what I got....http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3446906501&category=3008 except in black! Boy was I in for a surpirse!@ LOL I cant complain though, because it came in handy at Universal Studios, and it comes in handy when I hot the casinos in Biloxi. But gee, it certainly wasnt what I was expecting!
