Indoor Water Park Planned For Pittsburgh Mills Mall

TARENTUM, Pa. -- A Wisconsin water park company has announced plans for a facility near the struggling Pittsburgh Mills mall in Frazer Township.

Great Wolf Resorts Inc., of Madison, Wis., said Zamias Services Inc. will develop a hotel-water park resort near The Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills. Zamias owns the mall, which sits along Route 28.

The mall has struggled with vacancies since it opened in 2005, though the water park could make the mall a regional attraction.

Great Wolf said its resorts typically include a hotel with 300 to 600 rooms connected to an indoor water park and entertainment area, complete with theme restaurants and other attractions.

The company didn't say when the resort will open.

We go to Pittsburgh to visit family and have never been at a Great Wolf Lodge. If one opens in the Pittsburgh area we might be able to stay there sometime!

Do you have to stay there to use the indoor waterpark or can you buy a daily pass? It looks like a fun place!!

Go to Sandusky to Kalahari or Mason Ohio to Great Wolf. Both blow Splash Lagoon out of the water.....literally!

These kind of places do sell daily passes (if available) but it's often less expensive to get a room if you have 4 or more people, since your room rate includes 2 days of waterpark passes.

That is awesome. Our choices now are to go to Erie for Splash Lagoon or to the Poconos for Great Wolf.

That's great! This is an hour away from me, but my MIL lives about 5 minutes away. My DH grew up in West Deer.

I live in Beaver County and have been to Great Wolf in Sandusky many times. It was always close and affordable and with five kids we don't travel more than a few hours away from home. Last year, however, Great Wolf could not accomodate us on the days we wanted so we stayed down the road at Kalahari,,,a little pricier but OMG what a nicer place!
