Should I get a regular King room or one with a balcony? They are the same price, but I didn't know what the resort layout was like. (Grapevine, TX)

Also, other than the MOREFUN 10% off code, do you know of any others that might be a better deal?

I've never been to that one, so I can't say really what to do.....but when we go to GWL we do always have a balcony, but we don't use it. they aren't private and I've never seena reason to go out there. We go to the one in Pocono, and we go in the winter so it's too cold anyway.
As for codes, I just google GW codes and try them all until I find the best deal.

We've been to three GWL, though not the Texas one. We've always had a balcony and never used it.

I often get good codes from them via email. I think the most I got was last summer 30% off. I had a 20% off really recently.

We've stayed in Grapevine GWL several times. Just M.O. but I'd save the money on the room as much as possible. Its cool and all but the kids will prefer to be in the water park or running the halls and stairs doing the magic quest.....

Have FUN!

We LOVE GWL! We always get the least expensive room, which still a very nice room - 2 beds + sitting area. Like the other post said, once you have stayed, they will start emailing you codes.

I'm pretty sure we are going to go on New Year's Eve this year. We go to the one in Mason, OH by Kings Island. Even though we are "home", it feels like a vacation.

So glad to see this thread.:goodvibes We were just talking about going to the Gread Wolf Lodge in Texas. Had a few questions to those who have stayed at a GWL. Looking into the room with the bunk beds area for our 2 girls (ages 4 and 10). What is the view from the balcony? We would be going for their birthdays in December. I do see they have December activities that sound fun! We love going to Disney World for their bdays but looking for a quick trip this year. What do you think? Any info would be greatly appreciated.:)

I personally think everyone should experience GWL during the holidays. The holiday decorations are DIVINE! And, they have activities which include visits from Santa.

My DS, DN, DH and DD went to GWL for dinner this past Christmas Eve since our families were not celebrating and we wanted to something special. It was WONDERFUL! They even had indoor snow falling. We actually got the idea for NYE during this time. GWL is close enough for us to go to dinner there sometimes. DD and DN love to go to GWL just to play video games and attend storytime.

Seriously.... we love WDW. But, GWL is our "close to home" indulgence.

LOVE Great Wolf. We go all the time to the one in the Poconos

What time of year are you going? The balcony is not a big deal during cold weather time. There is so much going there that I really can't see anyone spending a ton of time on their balcony.

We used to get the kid cabin suite but after 2 horrible trips we now get the cheap room with 2 twin beds. My son slept horribly and ended up in bed with me, and my husband on the couch. My son has autism and couldn't tell us the bed was horribly uncomfortable. Last trip my husband tried sleeping in the kids room and he said the bathtub would be more comfortable. A friend with 2 typical kids went on the same trip and she said her kids didn't sleep either.

So avoid the cute themed kids beds. They are HORRIBLE mattresses that are in thick plastic. They don't use fitted sheets so as soon as you roll over, the sheets pull off and you are laying on thick plastic.

We're always so tired after a day at the waterpark that the theme and layout of the room really doesn't matter. We just want to change and go to bed

Another vote for getting the cheapest room you can. Don't bother with the theming...it's just not that nice. And with the amount of time you actually spend awake in the room, not worth it.

Truthfully, often as not we've been upgraded to a themed room. Last time we accepted, and I wish we'd turned them down. Those beds are soooo uncomfortable in the kids area that DD and I ended up on the pullout sofa. Not much better than the bunks. :rotfl:

As for the balcony, we've had one every time and have rarely stepped out on it. The GWL we go to has them either overlooking the parking lot or the back of the hotel. Neither view is optimal. So I wouldn't worry about balcony versus not. The only thing I would avoid is a ground floor room if possible, especially with little kids. Some of the patios are mere feet from the parking lot, which could be scary if junior makes a run for it.

Anyways, try AAA for a discount - I don't recall if it's also 10%, but it might be 15%. You could check and see.

Good luck, and hope you have a great time!

I have been to the GW in Kansas City and I agree - don't spend money on the room - we really went to the room to go to sleep. We did love it - the kids had a great time - it was cold outside when we went so none of the outside pool was open, but that was okay because all of the fun stuff was inside. The kids thought it was cool to be swimming when it was so cold outside.

We stayed at GWL in Grapevine in Dec. The rooms the OP is talking about are identical, except one has a balconey and one doesn't. I would choose the one with the balconey since they are the exact same price. You might not use it, but then again you might. If it's the same price, what do you have to lose?

we had a balcony view of the parking lot and used balcony to hang our towels out to dry on, nothing else!
Had a blast tho!;)

I haven't been to the Poconos GWL but have been to the Mason, OH one several times. I would imagine the view would change according to the location of your room - at Mason, you could have a view of a parking lot, a grassy area, King Island amusement park, or the side of a building (as we did last time). Honestly, the only thing we've ever used the balcony for was to hang our swimsuits to dry. As for the themed rooms - we've stayed in some really neat ones and my kids have never complained about the beds - and my adult dd slept on the top bunk the last 2 trips. My kids loved the Kid Cabin (stayed in this 2x) and the Wolf Den Suite. We have stayed in the Family Suite several times and they are very nice and my cousin's family was upgraded one trip to a Loft Suite - it was awesome. For my son's birthday last year we stayed in the Grizzly Bear Suite - 2 separate bedrooms, living area and 2 bathrooms - it was awesome. Now we did have a bad experience on our last trip - we were in Kid Kamp and it had nothing to do with the room itself but the location. We were in the 1st room as you start down the hallway - right next to the MagiQuest. My ds8 loved the MagiQuest but I didn't not enjoy the screaming, running kids in the hallway until after midnight (was supposed to close at 11) and then again at 7 am the following morning. We will never take a room on the end again.

We've stayed at the GWL in Wisconsin Dells. We had a "wolf den" with bunk beds for the kids once and the cheapest room possible once. The kids liked the bunk beds and didn't complain about them being uncomfortable. We were on the ground floor so had a patio instead of a balcony, but we recently stayed at the Wilderness Resort of the Smokies and the kids (9 & 7) loved our balcony. They were out there every spare moment we were in the room and our view was pretty much the building across the way.

We've had balconies in the Pocono's, and never went out there. We have to stay in the Kids Cabin suite do to the size of our family, but once went with a group, and listed one of our children on someone else's room, and had the regular room and preferred it. Our preference is top floor, as close to the waterpark as possible (there are always kids running in the hallway, so it's nice not to have them on top of you).
